Someone I know picked up a copy of Nero 8 early. Here are some of the screenshots he took.

First the install..

Next up is StartSmart. As you can see, it has been totally redesigned and does more than just launch the various programs in the suite. You can also copy, rip and burn simple data and discs from within the program.

The look of Nero Burning Rom hasn't changed very much. Like later builds of Nero 7, there are options to burn both HD DVD and Blu-ray discs.

I'll be curious to know how the TV watching/PVR stuff works.

I wasn't a big fan of including this with the package, but when I upgraded my TV tuner card (now a PowerColor Radeon Theater 550 Pro), the CyberLink software that came with it has some minor usability issues that hurt an otherwise reasonable product. If Nero's stuff works even 2/3 as well as something like Snapstream BeyondTV, I might consider buying it due to the added value.

EDIT: That's assuming Nero Scout can be disabled during the Install so it never gets put on, and that I can keep the installed features to a reasonable size (1GB is not a reasonable size).

When I installed Nero 8, the installation button for Nero Scout was disabled and grayed out. The capture function in the new Nero Vision, as in several previous versions, froze solid during the configuration process with the ATI Theater 650. The card will configure in Nero Home, but is silent. I have no idea if things fair better with the 550 Pro. I haven't been able to get far enough into the Nero Vision to determine if scheduling works.

You might want to look into a free tv recording program called GB-PVR, at http://www.gbpvr.com/.

I like to know if these 2 new options:
HD-DVD
Blu-ray Disc

appear always ?

I mean even if you have not a Blu-ray or a HD-DVD burner connected ?

There's an option to show all supported formats.
