Nero 6 File Size

Ok - I am brand new to Nero having bought the USB hub which included the Nero 6 version about 3-4 years ago. Just opened the package last night to try and record some old cassettes and LPs. Trying to get a cassette recorded first.

It seems I'm recording (the meters jump and then on playback, I hear a clean version - very nice!) but I have to unplug my USB cable in order for my PC speakers to "gain control" again. Very strange, that one. But this is the least of my worries here.

#1 - Holy Moses - I did a 1 minute test of a partial song and the file ended up being 19MB......there's the length of the song but then an hour (?) of silence and/or annoying hum. I quickly figured ut how to cut off the extra "nothingness" but it did not change the file size. I still do no thave any idea how that even got created. How do I avoid this in the future??? It seems to do this every time.

#2 - My Nero 6 software does not seem to like the "Convert Tape to CD" option and hangs forever only to crash when I get boredf with waiting after 15 minutes. However - it does seem to be working when I record using the simple " Record Audio" although the same issue with file size is there.

This might be good software if I can just get past this initial road bump. So any basic posts I can be directed to would be great. I used to be on another bulletin Board for my Tascam Portastudio5 and they had an area where all the same questions were corralled as "Basic Training" sort of area.

Thanks a million for any assist!

Pat

I can't say that I've ever tried to capture a cassette or LP with Nero but you may want to try upgrading to the latest version to see if it fixes the crash.

Thanks, Ian.

I actually bought the USB "hub" that was sold as a "transfer your tapes and LPs to CD" package and it justhappened to hav the Nero software included. This software really seems like the perfect entry level app for cleaning up recordings and such. But I have no idea why the file was so large or the other issue with "transfer tape (or LP) to CD" having little quirks. But it did record somehow after I fiddled around with it.

So no one here knows why the file (and subsequently minutes of dead air recorded) was so large in the end? And, no, I did not forget to turn off the Record button.

I'll keep working with it.

Is there a section on this Forum for Back to Basics for newbies? Other than the FAQs....they did not seem to address anything I am experiencing and not much on the version 6. I could upgrade for $60 but I think I'll play with this version for a while........

Thank again!

I think coonsanders ran into similar problems. Hopefully, he can shed some light on it.
