CD-RW doesn't like Nero and SVCD's

This is a norcent 48x12x48x CD-rw drive. It works great on burning audio cd's, data cd's, even VCD's.

However, when it came time for me to burn some SVCD's on it, this thing just sucks.

I use mode/2 DAO in Nero, and although the CD burns perfectly fine, the CD is unreadable by all devices. In windows xp, it gives a error message "disc maybe corrupt".

I then downloaded the SVCD test file from vcdhelp.com and used a different, more expensive 700MB CD-r.

The same results. Dead CD, totally dead. I finally got desperate and changed the mode to mode/2 TAO. Bingo! It works! CD's are readable and the such.

BUT, most of the SVCD's I create require overburning. TAO cannot overburn. This cd-rw burns everything else (data DAO, etc.) perfect, so it obviously can do DAO. Any suggestions?

Are you making your own VCD's or copying from 1 disc to another?

Copying: try CloneCD. It has a built in VCD profile and I believe it will handle an overburn.

Nero: I'm not aware of any way around the 703mb limit to TAO burning. So I can't help you there.

Have you tried Win On CD yet? It's made by Roxio (EZ CD Creator fame) and is more featured than EZ CD. Private Message me with your e-mail address and I'll send you a copy of the downloader program.

There was a free evening of downloading for it a week a go.

Not making VCD's or copying, I am burning SVCD's from .bin/.cue files. SVCD's using 1:1 copies in cloneCD DO WORK as SVCD's. However, burning new SVCD's from .bin/.cue files only become SVCD's using TAO with this new burner. DAO just makes coasters.

I have tried just about every program I know of with DAO and SVCD and my writer won't do it. DAO and every other format (Audio, Data) works like a charm, burns quick and fast. It SHOULD NOT be any different with SVCD (because it burns DAO/VCD!!!). I think it may be a firmware deal. I have contacted the norcent company and I hope they get back to me soon.

Thanks for your help.
