i purchased the yamaha crw-f1 and your softawre came w/ the burner. nero 5.5.9.9, inCD 3.881, neroMix 1.30 & nero utility kit.

well, the problem is, the discs keep burning and DOES NOT FINALIZE! i have checked the finalize field and still, the disc is ruined.

i am running win98. i have AMD K6 processor (500 mhz) and 184 mb ram. i know, i know, ol skool.

i installed the the new yamaha drive under cable select. i also have my original cd rom still installed and that is also under cable select.

how can i fix this problem?
i have succesfully burned 1 aud, 1 data and even copied a few, but that is 5 discs out of 15 that were succesful.

thanks

I would suggest setting the jumpers on the Yamaha CD-RW drive as the master and the CD-ROM as the slave drive. Also updating Nero to the newest version of 5.5.10 would be of some help too.

Download Nero Update Here

buddha, i just did the update...but is that free? or a trial..?
what is the difference b/w master/slave and cable select?
what is DMA and do i want it checked?

anyways, i just did 2 succesful burns.
1. copied an audio disc
2. burned an aud.

so i 'think' the upgrade might've helped

now, im gone try to read from my original cd rom and burn on the new.

*but i have noticed a significant decrease in performance as i burn. my original cd burner (which is still installed) was burning at 4x and i could still d/l and do many other things as i burned.
sorry if this question is stupid, but im just guessing since im burning at a high speed, its slowing things down, but if not, how can i fix this problem.

thanks again.

Cable select may work if you are using 80 wire IDE cables, but it is not supported by standard 40 wire IDE cables. Special 40 wire IDE cables are required for cable select operation.

I would also recommend dropping the cable select operation and updating the software.

What kind of burning are you doing when the burn does not finalize?

If you burn a standard data disk with No Multisession | Mode 1 & Joliet checked | Disc at Once and Finalize checked you should get a successful burn.

well, to be honest, i dont know what kinda IDE cables im using. they are the orginal ones that came w/ my compaq...and its kinda old (as you can see w/ the specs i posted above)

the burner has crapped out on all types of burn jobs, copy, aud and data.

software has been updated.

i do a lot of .shn d/l'n and convert to wav and burn the audio. so i am burning both often and copying as well.

As advised before, I think you should put the Yamaha as master on the IDE and if you have other cd drive put it as slave. You have to set the jumpers of each drive for this purpose. Forget about cable select.

You must enable DMA in all drives (disable it only when upgrading drive firmware and set it back to ON).

The Nero update is free if you own a copy of Nero.
