I installed the latest version...used a memorex cd-rw...formatted disc....opened explorer and I can't drag files onto that drive...the InCD icon in the tray is a green arrow pointing up and when I right click on it and choose properties it says the disc has 503mb's free space. What am I doing wrong here...or is it that my disc is bad? I was just gonna use this one packet cd for doing updates to my slimx player...faster than alway reformatting the cd-rw each time. If I eject the disk it tells me that track and session info must be written to eject the RW disc...does this mean that it closes the disk??? Cause when I eject it...and put the disk into my dvd-rom...I select properties and it tells me that there is 0 free space!!!

Many users report problems with Memorex CD-RW media. Hence your should try other media.

What burner are you using? Old burners with 2x or 4x rewriting speeds can't use High Speed (4x-10x or 4x-12x) and UHS (24x) media.

Please describe precisely what happens when you try to copy files to your InCD formatted via Explorer.

Was the option "Format disc to CD-MRW" checked before formatting? See the InCD Property Page.

I wouldn't be suprised if Explorer reported 0 free space for an InCD disc in a DVD-ROM drive, since that drive can't be used for writing. This is what I see on my 98SE and XP boxes, although I can't be sure about "clean" OS-es, because I'm running EasyWriteReader on my boxes.

Which version of Windows are you running? If XP, did you install SP1?

If you still have trouble with better media, you will have to provide more detailed information about your system. But first please read at least the more recent threads related to InCD problems.

When I drag files onto the E drive the arrow icon becomes a crossed out circle. That's all. It tells me:

Cannot copy - files on this cd-rom drive are read only. You cannot copy or move files onto this cd-rom drive.

I won't be able to help unless you follow my suggestions and provide detailed answers.

Apparently your CR-480ATE (not 480-ate) rewrites at 12x. Hence it can't use UHS media (24x). So what are your Memorex discs rated for?

I told you to try other media. Apparently you didn't, and I don't even know whether you used just a single Memorex disc; if you did, that disc might have been bad, and we won't get anywhere without further tests.

You should also try formatting with the option "Format disc to CD-MRW" unchecked (and, of course, better media). If this worked, your problem would be isolated to CD-MRW, in which case you should check if you have the latest firmware (apparently 1.0G).

Since the InCD help doesn't work, you should download the InCD manual from Ahead; it's slightly outdated, but better than nothing.

Note that InCD discs should be ejected via the InCD icon (since ejection via the burner's button may destroy a disc).

When you format a disc by InCD, you should get the InCD mounted message, after which the InCD icon has a green N-E arrow. It should stay green while the disc is used (for copying, etc). When the disc is ejected, the InCD icon has a red S-E arrow (indicating there is no medium or InCD-formatted medium in the drive). When a formatted disc is reinserted, you should see the InCD mounted message, and the arrow should flip and turn green again.

The third possibility is that the icon is a yellow circle with an exclamation mark and a red S-E arrow, which means that no InCD-supported CD-RW drive could be found.

Hence I am stymied by your description. Do you mean that the InCD icon changes before or after you see the Explorer message? Does it take any of the three forms described above? Could you describe the "crossed out circle" more precisely? Does Explorer's message really refer to "cd-rom"? What do you do afterwards to eject the disc? Note that when the InCD icon has a red S-E arrow, the only option after right-clicking on it is Version Information, i.e., there is no Eject.

So please run several tests with better media, and describe in detail the InCD behavior, noting how it differs from the above description.

I'm just about finished doing a test with the latest InCD [using Mount Rainier] and a LiteON 52/24/52 with the latest firmware and 10 different pieces of CDRW's from 4x to 24x speed.

I was surprised how well the latest InCD performs now versus the OEM version I originally got. The firmware update might have helped too.

So far I might prematurely conclude that the media is the greatest factor for producing errors. The Memorex 80min 700mb 10x CDRW don't seem to be welcomed with open arms. I don't have any myself b/c of the negative things I've read about them.

Don't hold your breath too long. It's nothing astounding. I'm still trying to figure out a way to produce some errors but in a "fair and scientific" manner i.e. not doing many things in the background.
