I did a burn of music and the speed stayed constant at 16x (typically my preference for burning audio to CDRs). So I'm not sure if it's working or not. I will do another burn and post back the results.

Just FYI, I use a TDK 4800B, which is a Liteon 48246S, if I'm not mistaken. Also, this version of Nero -5590- came bundled with it.

The fix had worked for me (Win XP Home/SP1), but just for kicks, I tried it on my old system (Win95A, just used for communication, not burning anymore) - and it didn't stay fixed. The values in the registry changed when the "burn" button was pressed, but also on exit after simulation. After reading the last few posts in this thread, I did some more tests. Results: on both rigs the fix works and stays put only if the key is set to 1 in HKCU and to 0 in HKLM. However, sometimes only HKCU was reset to 0 (on exit after simulation), sometimes both keys. Don't nail me down on the combination. This seems to jibe with everything else posted recently.

Just have a look in the registry- if the value is "1", it stayed active.

Oh yes, it stayed at "1". That value sticks for HKCU, regardless of whether I'm doing a real burn, simulation, closing and reopening Nero...it stays at "1".

Craig, can I just post your work cell phone number instead so they can direct call you with their questions? :)

Code: Select all
REGEDIT4

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Ahead\Nero - Burning Rom\Recorder]
"ShowSingleRecorderSpeed"=dword:00000001

Save the file with the name "showspeed.reg", and then double-click the file to enter the information into your registry.

Removed erroneous entry that changed the value under the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE hive as well, and deleted request to let me know if it works (beacause it does work)
</edit>

Tried it in Nero 6, and it not only worked, but the key's value did NOT keep returning to 0 upon exit of regedit or Nero.

Bringing back dead threads, eh?

I too have used that little trick and it works great on a new install of Nero 6.

Yes :)
I was trying to see how fast my 708A was actually burning DVDs, and noticed that the usual registry key didn't exist in Nero 6 anymore, so I looked for threads (from the dead).

If anybody has all their settings right and the patch still doesn't work uninstall Nero and clean out the registry of the Ahaed/Nero stuff and reinstall, then add the thing manualy or with the reg file. I found this comment on CD Freaks and it worked so far for me. My old copy of XP on my old boot drive took it just fine but for whatever reason it wouldn't work on the new boot drive. Nero worked the show speed didn't.

I had this trick working with Nero 5.5x, but it vanished when I upgraded to Nero 6.

I had to manually create the entry, after that it worked fine.
