The guide on "InCD troubleshooting under WinXP" is available in the FAQ's forum:

Nicely done.

Now all Ahead needs to do is redevelop the software so that it works and these steps are not necessary. IMHO, in this day and age, thinking that it's acceptable for end-users to have to get into the registry and make edits is ridiculous. InCD doesn't offer enough benefits to warrant the efforts some folks have to go to get it to work.

The InCD PM needs to change the user paradigm and get their head screwed on straight.

KCK, is this the same guide you have in cdfreaks?
thanks for bringing it here too. :D
and all-round thanks for your dedicated InCD work and helping everyone out. :P :P :P

by the way, what is the rename bug in InCD 3.37?
i've never seen any reference to in on the CDRLabs message boards (except maybe once from you a long time ago)

Step S11 of the guide has just been expanded slightly with warnings about registry removals, and UpperFilters and LowerFilters (which should not reference drivers that have been renamed; otherwise errors will occur after rebooting).

tazdevl:

The need for registry edits should be blamed on Adaptec/Roxio and MS (WMP). Of course, Ahead could help, perhaps with Nero Clean tool.

dodecahedron:

The W2K version of the guide posted at CDFreaks is no longer sticky there, so actually I have been thinking about bringing it here! :D

And a 98x version is still in the works...

With InCD 3.37, users couldn't rename folders; I'm quite sure it has been mentioned here at CDRLabs several times (Search?).

What do you think, dodecahedron? I'd say this qualifies a good FAQ entry.

yes, sounds good.

KCK, why don't you post a copy of this in the FAQ forum, which will be its permanent home? then we can ask Ian to delete this thread.

The guide has been moved to the FAQ's forum. It may be wiser not to delete this thread, since links to this thread have already been posted in several places.

Agreed. No need to delete this one. You can lock it if you want to focus attention on the new FAQ thread, but I wouldn't delete it.

I have just updated the guide in the FAQ's forum.

In particular, step S7 shows how to get help working; it may also be of general interest for problems with Ahead's self-extracting installers.

S11 gives more info on MusicMatch (although it does work with InCD for CowboySlim), and S18 asks for more specific info from users (this is based on recent forum exchanges).

Hey KCK, when is Ahead going to start paying you for all your extensive efforts to document and support InCD? :D

Thanks again for your untiring efforts.

You should ask CCampbell! :P

Since "All Content is Copyright (c) 2001-2003 CDRLabs Inc.", maybe should donate something to the CDRLabs forum? 8)

If Ahead doesn't offer a free upgrade to InCD 4.x, my support will peter out...

Whether or not they offer a free upgrade to the general public (I think they should, but obviously have no say in the matter), they ought to offer one to you. Heck, they should give you a free upgrade to Nero 6 as well.
