Really can't keep up with it. So many bugs for them to patch? The version 5.5.10.7 works great for me. How you all think about the update? Should we really keep up with the update like we update our antivirus defination file?

I agree with Ippnet, the updates are almost weekly, now.

I'm still on 5.5.9.17. I got tired of chasing the updates as well, and figured I wouldn't robotically update every time a new release comes out, unless it fixes a bug I am specifically having a problem with. Why? Because the new versions often introduce their own new bugs. And even if there aren't any new bugs, I've got enough to do without updating every five weeks or so.

I do appreciate Ahead's efforts to hunt down bugs and release fixes, but sometimes it seems like they are try to emulate Microsoft's strategy of using the customers as quality control. :( Still, I have to give Ahead points for making the updates available for free, and not forcing customers to pay for bug fixes.

I'm on 5.5.10.15 now! They are all the same to me. A few differences every now and then. I always like to stay on top of new versions.

Hmmm, overburning DOES NOT work anymore with Nero 5.5.10.15, the overburning dialogue does not appear anymore and the CD is simply ejected.
What the heck, from 5.5.9.17, they have started going downwards with the Nero versions. First there was that RW erasing time problem, that was NEVER fixed, now this ?
Can anyone give me a good reason to update ?
And maybe a link to the old 5.5.9.17 version ? Because I deleted all older versions like the fool I am.

Crashes with DirectCD and most Roxio's software.

Dear sir/madam/friends,

I updated my drivers from the previous 5.5.10.7b to this latest 5.5.10.15 but it crashes with DirectCD. I am not a user of InCD so this should not be a problem. Then I uninstalled it and problem's fixed. Next I clean install it and update to 5.5.10.15 but it crashes again. It says DirectCD not responding, during startup. Some other programs like my computer, internet explorer and netscape crashes as well. I'm now back to 5.5.10.7b without any problem.
I hope anyone can help me with my problem. Thank you in anticipation.

Hello all,

I gave up on Nero writing DVD's in Dec.after i bought my Sony DRU-500A.
I wish they would make a smaller cumulative patch that just updates the bugs and writer support DB instead of a 13+MB Demo.

The only thing I can suggest is to double check that the new installation isn't trying to install InCD by default. Nero Burning ROM alone ought not have the effect you describe, since it shouldn't even be running when the computer is simply booting. But it is possible Ahead has made some change that introduced a bug as you describe. The repeatability of the problem you are having is good evidence of a new Nero bug.

Perhaps you should write an email to Nero explaining your problem.

I posted about this on another board, and there was a reply from someone that they had overburned 4 discs so far with 5.5.10.15 without any problem.

Very weird, because I tried everything I could think of, and I also tried on a friend's computer.

makhonkit:

Which version of Windows are you running?

I might be able to check what Nero 5.5.10.15 installs for 98SE and XP. But don't hold your breadth, since I may wait a couple of days to see if more users report problems with the latest Nero. 8)

Yes, I have both Win98SE and WinXP in dual-boot, tried them both with same results.
