Everytime I would uninstall easywrite, this message comes up:

"An error occurred during the copy process (file name: ), Error:0
Please reboot your computer and retry"

Then the uninstall would fail. I really need some help round here. :cry:

Do you mean Ahead's EasyWriteReader? If yes, which version of Windows are you running?

First, clean up your TMP and TEMP directories, and stop all unnecessary programs (via Ctrl-Alt-Del and select); futher, disable your antivirus software for all such experiments.

Next, execute the following steps until success occurs.

1. Going to Control Panel | Add/Remove Programs, select "InCD EasyWrite Reader (Ahead Software)", click Add/Remove, then OK as many times as needed, and write down all error messages, if any. Your error message missed the file name, so it's better to check again. Reboot.

2. Download the latest EasyWriteReader from www.ahead.de by going to LATEST DOWNLOADS | InCD 3.52.20b and selecting InCD | Utilities, or simply using the link

ftp://ftp.nero.com/EasyWriteReader.exe

Then run EasyWriteReader.exe, and report error messages, if any. If it installs correctly, try removing it as in step 1 above.

3. Open an MS-DOS Prompt window, type "cd c:\windows" (without the quotes) and Enter, then "unmrw.exe /UNINSTALL" and Enter. Report the messages.

4. Navigate to the directory C:\Windows\System\IOSUBSYS in Windows Explorer or an MS-DOS Prompt window, and rename the drivers BsUDFRDR.vxd to BsUDFRDR.vx_, and INCDRM.vxd to INCDRM.vx_. You may also need to clean up the registry, but you may skip it if you don't know how to back up and edit the registry. Alternatively, you may use RegCleaner from

http://www.vtoy.fi/jv16/shtml/regcleaner.shtml

Still, for manual cleanup, click Start | Run, type "regedit" and Enter. Then search (Ctrl-F) for "bsudfrdr" (without the quotes). You will probably find something similar to what I have

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Ahead\Nero - Burning Rom\NeroCd95\CallbackTable]
"Stack_E"="BsUDFRDR[3] voltrack[5] CDTSD[6] NEROCD95[8] CDVSD[13] CDVSD[14] CDRBSVSD[15] scsi1hlp[15] INCDRM[16] ESDI_506[22] IOS[31] "
"Stack_F"="BsUDF[2] BsUDFRDR[3] voltrack[5] CDTSD[6] NEROCD95[8] CDVSD[13] CDRBSVSD[15] scsi1hlp[15] INCDRM[16] ntmap[19] IOS[31] "

where E refers to my DVD-ROM drive, and F refers to my burner's drive (of course, your drive letters may differ). Edit both Stack_ keys to remove BsUDFRDR[3] and INCDRM[16], where again the bracketed numbers may differ. Continuing the search (F3) will end up with

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\SharedDLLs]
"C:\\WINDOWS\\SYSTEM\\Iosubsys\\bsudfrdr.vxd"=dword:00000001

Delete this entry for bsudfrdr.vxd in the right pane, and reboot.

For the sake of other users, please report your results in detail. 8)

Ok, here's what I've done:

1. I went to add/remove programs and I tried to uninstall InCD EasyWrite Reader there, but the error (refer to my first post) still persists and the uninstallation failed everytime I tried.

2. I downloaded the latest EasyWrite Reader from the site you pointed to me and ran the installer (after cleaning everything up). But instead of a straight through install, it presented me with the options to "update" or "remove" EasyWrite Reader. I chose the latter, and no errors came up. I checked if it was removed from the add/remove programs list, and EasyWrite Reader was gone. Then I tried running the downloaded installer again, and it installed just fine with no errors. The last thing I did was uninstalling it from add/remove programs, and the message that bothered me for many times didn't appear. In short, it uninstalled correctly. I installed it again. Again, no errors cropped up.

3. Since EasyWrite Reader is currently running fine after what I've done, I didn't bother with editing the registry.

Oh, by the way... I was also presented with an "update or remove" option when I ran the original EasyWrite Reader installer that I got from my Lite-on LTR-52246S burner, but the same error message (refer to my first post) resulted everytime I tried selecting the remove option. Anyway, thanks for the help KCK!

I am glad the simplest solution has worked! :D

Thanks for reporting your experience, since it may help other users.

BTW, there are at least four versions of EasyWriteReader floating around; that's why I recommended getting the latest one from Ahead.

Yeah, good thing the new version solved my problem. Believe me, I had some share with twidling with the registry, and it sure was a long process. Thanks again! :D
