Trying to find out about my CD Rom drive....

Hi chaps

My PC is an OEM that was bought from Time computers. On the spec list that I was given with the PC there was no info about what kind of CD Rom drive I have.

Using some hardware analysis programs I've found out that I have a "HL-DT-ST CD-RW GCE-8160B". I've been searching the net to try to find out about it's spec. So far I've been able to work out that it was made by LG, but I'm trying to find out how quick it is at reading, writing etc, as I'm considering upgrading the drive. Obviously I can't buy something faster until I know how fast the current one is (If you get what I mean.

Can anyone help ? Drop me a line if you can.

Thanks loads,

Dom.

i have the 8160b, as you may have seen it's a 16x10x40 CD-RW

It does not support UDMA, but will run in UDMA mode 2... my particular one is kinda picky about CD-R media when burning audio, consequently I only use Fuji-Film/Taiyo Yuden or Verbatim DataLifePlus media.

This drive was one of the 1st burners(if not the 1st) ever to support burning a 99 minute CD (as shown by www.tomshardware.com)

I think my drive has been very reliable and dependable. Since using this drive I have purchased two more LG burners and feel pleased with each purchase.
