I've had no success capturing video with an Nvidia GeForce 4 Ti 4200 card VIVO card. Anyone have recommendations on the best card for video catpure (analog camcorder tapes for editing and DVD burnding)? Should I get a standalone box (Pinnacle?) versus the capture feature built into a card? How about the All-in-Wonders?

The All-in-Wonders are great! You get a superb graphics card PLUS video capturing on one! I never tried capturing camcorder video cassettes, but you should have no problems with an All-in-Wonder. Be prepared to spend a great deal of money for the newer All-in-Wonders; the Radeon 9700 All-in-Wonder is going for $340-350. For you needs though, an older All-in-Wonder will do just fine. Look at the Radeon 8500 All-in-Wonder, it's a great series!

I agree get a ATI AIW card,you can capture up to 720x480(NTSC DVD).
You can get a AIW 7500(great for capturing but not for gaming) for $128.

If money is no object then get a Canopus or Hauppauge card

Newegg has some that look great if you dont wanna buy another vid card. These are stand alone pci cards.

I haven't used my AIW 9700 to capture any external sources yet.

But I have used my TV Wonder PCI to and it works fine.

Even my old, old, old AIW Pro 8mb AGP captured pretty well at it's limited resolution.

How is the resolution/framerate on the tv wonder?

It's maximum resolution is at MPEG-2 352x240 [NTSC] or 352x288 [PAL].

Framerate's are good on a "fast machine" [over 1 ghz].

I have the PCI version which is the only one in stereo.

You might want to check out www.rage3d.com or www.rageunderground.com for comments on this one if you're interested in getting one.

ATi finally has some decent winXP software (was still beta and broken up till a few months ago) for the TV blunder.

Peronally, there are better cards based on the same chipset (conexant bt8x8) infact, just about every PCI "TV card" uses the conexant 8x8 chip so they all basically have the same hardware fetures. The differences could be in the quality of the tuner (if you'd even be using it), the inputs, and the software. I think Leadtek is supposed to make the best 8x8 card.

The AIW cards don't use the 8x8 chip, they use their own ATi rage theater chips. Any of the radeon AIW cards are going to give the same quality. Except for perhaps the 9700 AIW as I think it uses an upgraded version of the rage theater chip.

For my money, the 8500DV is the best value.. I love the dongle. If you want the cheapest, get the 7xxx series AIW. And if you want to play newer games, the 9700 AIW is it.
