hi there,
is it worth it to have one? i'm running out of IDE channels... IDE channel 1 have two 80gb HD, IDE channel 2 have DVD writer and DVD-ROM, I want to hook back my Lite-On LTR48125W so i can use it instead of using my DVD writer to burn CD-Rs.. any suggestion?

Here are some choices:
Promise:
Ultra66 - $23
Ultra100 - $29
Ultra133 - $34
Siig:
Ultra66 - $21
Ultra100 - $28
Ultra133 - $38
Get one suitable for your hard drives, and then put the hard drives on it, leaving the optical drives attached to the mother-board's controller.

I have used controllers by Promise.
In one of my PCs, I moved my hard drives to the Promise IDE controller and leave my optical drives to the onboard IDE controllers.

I've got 2 Tx2's by Promise.
One is ATA100, the other is ATA133.
No problems.

I have onboard raid and a Promise 133tx2 card. I use the regular IDE channels to run my dvd drive and burner, and the onboard raid and promise card to run my raid5.
