SoundCard problems with DVD playback???

Recently purchased a Lite-On LDW-440D DVD recorder. I am trying to watch a regular DVD with PowerDVD 4.0. The picture is excellent but the sound is very choppy or shuttered. I updated the IDE drivers and got the latest sound card drivers but the problem still exists. I tried another DVD player software and the same thing happened. I have an Athlon 1.2, 80 GB HD and a Sound Blaster Live Value soundcard. Any ideas? Please help so I can watch a DVD in peace.

Thanks

Welcome to CDRLabs! :D

Is DMA enabled for your drive?

DMA is enabled. Thanks you for the welcome. Do you think maybe the sound card is to old and has to be replaced??

I wouldn't think that the sound card is too old; I know someone with that same sound card in a 1.7GHz P4 system, and it plays DVDs just fine. I suppose a new sound card wouldn't hurt, but I don't think it is causing the problem.

Did you have a DVD drive before you added the Lite-On? If so, did it ever play DVDs right?

Also, does the sound card work right when you play an audio file such as an MP3 or WAV file?

First time with a DVD drive. I can play an audio cd in the DVD drive and the sound is perfect. I just don't uderstand why the sound would screw up with a DVD.

How about an audio file (Wave or MP3) that is on your hard drive?

Strange. How high is your CPU usage while playing DVDs? I'll need to know what version of Windows you're running to tell you how to find out because it is different in different versions of Windows.

do you have any trouble at all with audio on your system?

what's your motherboard? is it based on a VIA chipset?

there's known issues with VIA chipset based motherboards and SB Live soundcards.

if your motherboard is indeed based on a VIA chipset, try updating to the latest 4-in-1 drivers.
check out www.viaarena.com for more info on this matter.

Ain't nothing like using the onboard sound, or use a different sound card. Or you can reinstall the Live's driver.
