Cleaning a DVD Lens

Anyone got any recomendations on how to clean the lens on a DVD Player?

It is a 6 year old Pioneer 717 which i'm reluctant to get rid of. Lately it has started skipping on CD's that really shouldn't be a problem. It also no longer plays my hybrid SACD/CD copy of Dark Side Of The Moon.

I was thinking about wiping the lens with a cotton bud. Would there be any harm in using a drop of acetone too? that will remove any residues completely. i just don't know if the lens is coated with anything that might not like such a strong solvent.

Was also going to clean and re-grease the motor gearing with some silicon grease i got from work.

anything else i should do while i'm giving the unit a good service? :)

Just clean the lens with alcohol and just lubricate the rod on which the lens mchanism moves to and forth.I dont think using silicon gel for greasing is a good idea.I use a compound lubricant made of some five oils.
