you could go with intel's chipset

865g i think is the newest chipset with integrated graphics

stay away from via's chipset, sis is ok, you'll have to ask aviationwiz if its any good

and i don't believe nvidia makes a chipset for intel cpus yet

I think the latest Intel with graphics is the 915G (socket 775). Not sure if the 925 has a "G" variation or not. Of course, they're both brand new so availability is kind of nil right now.

Just curious: Why not buy a very inexpensive video card (i.e., Radeon 7000)? Even if you aren't doing a whole lot of graphics work, system performance overall will improve.

Of course, you could be doing a 1U rack configuration, in which case integrated video would make sense. I'd go with the Intel solution, from a stability perspective. VIA's graphics are generally derived from S3, whose drivers I have little trust for, and SiS has reasonable chipsets but poor USB performance.

Yuck, there really is no such thing as a good intergrated video chipset. The closest I've seen to good is nVidia's nForce2 (AMD only) motherboards with integrated Geforce4 MX 440, although seeing how the Geforce4 MX line always sucked (It was the equivilent to a Geforce2 ti), that didn't help anyone out either. The graphics will always be piss-poor with integrated graphics and it sucks up quite a bit of system resources if it doesn't come with its own memory embedded in the mobo (extremely rare). Please, for the love of God, get a freakin AGP card, even a crummy GeforceFX 5200 would suffice...

The current best integrated onboard graphic chipset is ATI Radeon 9100/Pro IGP. ATI Radeon 9100 is basically a Radeon 8500. ATI Radeon 9100 beats GeForce 4 MX in every aspect. Also ATI is coming up soon with Radeon 9600 based video integrated chipset.

Anyways, integrated video chipsets suck no matter how you look at it.

reason i say this is because we got a new HP computer in the other day (staples) and it has pci express, no FDD connector on mobo, no agp, and of course integrated video
