Same as Athlon XP except SMP is "enabled" by default and costs more. You can mod Athlon XP to MP.

You should probably mention that this mod does not have a 100% success rate and that it is definetely not for the timid to attempt. If you do feel up to it (you WILL save a ton of money going SMP with modding XPs), you can get two Mobile Athlon XP 2500+s for around $180 total and mod 'em. If you can find a MP board with overclocking features, you should be able to reach at least 2300mhz with each processor easy with good cooling. That would be one hell of a machine. Even though I am a hardcore AMD fan, I think I might be going dual Xeon here pretty quick...

My understanding is that most Athlon MP processors are multiplier unlocked as well, making overclocking easier (unless that has been changed in recent versions), unlike the standard Athlon XP. Of course, if you aren't going to run a dual CPU setup but want a multiplier-unlocked CPU, the Athlon XP-M (M for Mobile) is a far better choice, running much cooler and with quite a bit of overclocking potential.

2 CPU set up will require a Special Mobo.
With this I think????? the same is possible on a desktop, Soc. A mobo.

????? Kindly clarify.

most 2-cpu motherborads are server-oriented, not enthusiast-orieted, and thus usually don't have overclocking features (well, not many anyways).

2 CPU's will need two CPU sockets on the mobo. That is what the AMD 760MP chipset does. Maybe there are more.

Is this CPU release (AMD Athlon MP Processor 2800+
Quantispeed Architechture Operates at 2133 Mhz ) for the normal mobo's with only one cpu soc.? and then will it run at 2133MHz?

I guess what this comes down to is really a recommendation. Here's mine.

For the vast majority of people out there, a single fast processor is better than two medium speed processors. Compare that Athlon MP at $140 to an Athlon XP-2800+ for $100 or less. Realize that a lot of applications cannot use dual processors, and won't run any faster. Also look at the cost of dual-CPU Athlon XP mainboards. They're hard to find and really expensive, whereas a top-end single CPU Athlon XP mainboard is about $100 or so.

If I was going to spend the kind of cash it took to build a 2-CPU Athlon XP mainboard, I'd go and buy an Athlon 64 CPU and mainboard; for the same price it's far more advanced technology and performance should be equal or better in most cases. If I wanted to buy a budget system, I'd either buy an Athlon XP 2800+ and a single CPU mainboard, or I'd buy a mobile Athlon XP-M 2500+ if I was an experienced user and overclock the crap out of it, thereby getting Athlon XP 3200+ performance or higher.

I'd skip the Athlon MP processor.
