Since system memory is rarely used for AGP texture swapping, it's not a huge issue one way or another. If you have lots of RAM in your system, I'd set it equal to the amount of your graphics card; otherwise I'd set it to half.

Just an FYI:

I have been reading various Half-Life 2 forums, and many people have been reporting strange drops in FPS, often accompanied by audio stuttering. Valve replied that they are investigating the problem.

I'm hoping they will release a quick patch to resolve the problem!

Set it at 128MB, should be fine. You can crank it up to 256MB if you have 1GB of RAM.

That might be more due to your relatively weak graphics card too. Keep in mind HL2 (along with other heavy hitters like Doom III and FarCry) need some excellent hardware to run it full tilt with good fps...

i usually set mine to half of the system memory

thankfully that HL2 audio and video stuttering hasn't happened to me

but now that i beat half life 2, it just sits on my computer not being played

when i played it, i had all eye candy on but only 1024x768x32 with 8x anistropic filtering, 8x AA still played dreamy on my system

But you had to run it with the DX8 codepath, not the DX9 kaga used. Valve (very stupidly,IMO) claim that the PS2 shader units on the GF-FX series suck, therefore only DX8 for GF-FX users.
Idiots.

I have noticed Valve has a hard-on of hate towards nVidia for some reason. Not only to they release the game WAY too late, they screw a ton of their fans with this shit too...

You probably won't notice anything from that upgrade. Games tend to be wayyy more dependent on what video card you have.
