IDE card to connect DVD burner as Master

Any suggestions on which IDE card would work well to connect the Pioneer DVR-108. I already have a CD-R connected to my secondary as master and wanted to connect the Pio as a master connected to an IDE PCI card. Or, if I connect the Pio as master and the CD-R as slave, would it slow down the Pio or the CD-R (Litey 52x24x52)?

I've found that most addon IDE cards don't work well with ATAPI devices. You'd be better off putting it on the same IDE chain as the CD-RW.

You probably won't see any decrease in performance as long as you're not trying to write to both at the same time or copying between the two.

i've read posts that said that Siig IDE cards are better with optical drives. but i've no first-hand experience with them.

artefice,

do you currently use this card? I found it at Newegg for about 48 dollars. Thanks

Yes. 3 of them in different setups.
I bought one, 16 months ago and got stuck (running atapi drives as Master)
I have not found another atapi compatible pci card (at least here in Greece)

I have used Siig cards in the past, and this model

http://www.siig.com/product.asp?pid=437 worked just fine.

For most clients who need something like this, I usually convince them that a nice external USB (or Firewire case) with a card is also a good solution :)

But Ian is right, just chaining them together shouldn't cause you much performance grief :)

shaun,
So, if were to use this card, would it be better if I connected my HD to it and the op drives to the Pri and Sec Channels?

Yep!

You will find that your optical drives will be a lot more "happy" (read less flakey...weird issues always seem to pop up once and a while)...your harddrive could care less, and you can boot off this card :)
