i think something si wrong with my monitor. the colour on the screen is just too dark. it is still ok, just that it doesnt give a accurate quality of photosand pictures as they will appear as too dark. this is obvious when i compared the monitor to another

i tried adjusting the settings in windows and adjusting the buttons on the monitor but they didnt help at all...
could there be problems with the internal stuff or etc? any possibilities?

thx in advance

With my ATI card there are options in the Display Properties -> Settings -> Advanced area for adjusting the brightness. One is in the Color tab for adjusting overall brightness and one is in the Overlay tab for adjusting the brightness of video (eg. avi and mpeg files). The overlay options only work if a valid movie is playing.

Also, some CRT monitors get quite dim as they get older. I think it has to do with the tube leaking air. I've seen quite expensive monitors with this problem.

You could phone an electronics repair shop and see what they say. Probably cheaper to buy a new monitor though. Some monitors might have an extra internal control to adjust the brightness. You would probably have to take it apart but be careful not to kill yourself though!

You could check the back of the monitor if there are adjustments there. Or you could turn off the lights! :)

If your vid card doesn't provide decent brightness correction in properties (as GTMan descibes) you could try downloading Powerstrip or something similar - it should give you brightness/contrast/gamma etc control.
