AMDPC locks up after 15 - 30 mins with wireless USB adapter

My 2.1 GHz Athlon XP 2600+ desktop PC with FIC model AM37 mobo (Award BIOS v6.00PG, Rev. AM37308 12/16/2002/KM266-.......) is having lock-ups; this seems to have started after I got a new wireless USB adapter (went to wireless G from wireless B).
I used to have a Belkin wireless 802.11B USB adapter and the PC was fine.

I bought a Motorola WU830G wireless G USB adapter and it seems that this is when the PC started to completely lock up after a certain, somewhat random, time interval after being booted up (anywhere from 15 minutes to an hour after).
Someone mentioned disabling power management of the 'USB root hub'; I had already disabled other power management stuff (screen saver or power saving options, which I originally thought had helped).
The root hub power mgmt disabling seemed to possibly make it take little longer for the lockups to occur.
After trying a bunch of stuff, I bought a D-Link DWL-G122 AirPlus G wireless adapter. I thought that helped, but the PC still locked up.
I removed the Motorola adapter software, but it still showed up in startup or services; however, it was already disabled when the PC locked up the last time.

I am wondering, based on reading posts, whether it could be the combination of the motherboard chipset (VIA in my case) and the adapter chipset (name =?); I read that many of these wireless adapters share the same (problem) chipset.

Some posts of people with similar issue have mentioned overheating, chipset or power surge issues.
One poster also suggested it could be IRQ (sharing) conflicts and another mentioned TCP/IP polling or something to that effect.
Unfortunately it seems like there isn't ONE easy fix since it could be any one, or more, of multiple different types of issues...
I do know that my old Belkin 802.11b wireless USB adapter NEVER locked up on the same PC.
Maybe using a power USB hub (I have one stored away) might help?

Any suggestions would be appreciated!

A few vague stabs...

Does event viewer (Control panel>admin tools>) have any suspicious events being logged?

Is the heat issue meant to be of the adaptor or the cpu? If cpu, install motherboard monitor or similar and keep an eye on it... (if adaptor, that's dodgy, send it back!)

Is your bios up to date, or worth updating? I know there is the held belief out there not to update unless there is a specific documented benefit, but updating mine fixed a huge problem that was not mentioned.

Have you tried the latest via 4in1s? Search out alternative usb drivers at the least.

Is there another set of usb headers on your motherboard you could try.

If no joy, re-installing windows would be a good move as motorola debris might somehow still be causing the ongoing issue... smells that way to me...
