Sempron 2400+
256MB PC2700 DDRRAM
40GB HDD
20GB HDD External USB 2.0
xp pro
Geforce fx 5200
Biostar M7VIZ 8.0
Liteon dvdrw sohw 832s 8X
Liteon dvdrom 16X

I've heard of ppl burning movies in 5mins. Is that possible with DVD to DVD movies? If yes do i have to upgrade MOBO, CPU, RAM, SATA HDD's????

You need a 16x writer and 16x media, burning at 16x should take 3.75 minutes to burn 4.37GB but in reality it takes ~5.
Personal Note:I have a BenQ 16x writer and have burned at 16x,the high errors aren't worth saving 2 minutes so I burn at 8-12x.

If a disc is unprotected, you might be able to do an on the fly copy at 16x. If you need to rip, reencode and burn.. you're not going to be able to do that on the fly, especially with those specs.

start to finish, with my dual drive setup, non protected disks

i also have the rip-unlocked firmware loaded on my pioneer

like i said start to finish, average 12minutes

thats from hitting the backup button on dvd shrink to dvd decrypter auto ejecting the duplicate copy after the burn

I don't trust my dvd rom to copy on the fly, it sometimes gives problems to read disks that are scratched even a little. So I have to stick to creating an image & then burning. I can burn at 6X with no probs, but at 8X the movie will freeze. So if I get a 16X burner will I be able to at least burn at 8X with good copies? Does RAM have anything to do with dvd burning (Just dvd to dvd, no copy protected DVD's)???

256MB RAM with XP

I notice you're running with only 256MB of RAM, this will really slow down your performance in Windows XP. I'd upgrade to 512 or better yet 1GB if you can afford it, your PC will run much better. I run XP Pro on a 1GHz Pentium III with 512 MB of RAM and can burn DVD's in about 8 minutes using 8x media in a Pioneer DVR-A11. I rip then to the hard drive first.

Would more RAM help me get better faster burns?
When you have an 8X burner (Liteon DVDRW SOHW 832S 8X) can it actuall work good at 8X? Or would i be better with a 16X burner and more RAM?
Does SP2 have anything to do with burning. Why I asked this ........ I had XP PRO SP2 and had to reinstall but just had xp pro without any SP & then some Ridata dvd-r blanks would not read to burn, but on some other days it will burn!!! WHY??? Is it bad media or is my drive giving up or is it SP2???

Thanks 8)
