Windows "Safely Remove Hardware" Icon Question

I just hooked up my new HP printer today and it works great but the "Safely Remove Hardware" icon appeared in the taskbar and it will not go away. I thought this only shows up for "hot swap" devices like cameras. My old printer never made this icon appear - why is it showing up now? It's not a big deal but I like to keep my desktop clean and since I'm not intending to unplug this printer for awhile, I see no reason for that icon to be there. I know that I can hide it and I realize that if I get rid of the utility, it will affect the plugging in of real "hot swap" devices, so how do I get it to not affect this printer - do I need to change the USB port? Will it just go away eventually?

Does the printer allow you to attach your camera directly to the printer, or does it allow you to insert media cards and read from them? If it does and your old printer didn't, this could explain the safely remove hardware icon.

All 3 of my SATA hard drives & my SATA DVD burner show up on the stupid list...just gotta live with it

Basically, any USB/SATA device.
