Diamond Bar, Calif. -- November 13, 2006 -- Advanced Media, Inc., manufacturer and marketer of the popular RIDATA brand of recordable CD and DVD media, electronic storage products, and digital media accessories, is set to introduce its RIDATA Fingerprint USB Flash Drive. Designed for use in both professional and home applications, it integrates several advanced biometric-verification technologies to ensure user authenticity as well as provide secure data storage. No password or special software is needed.

"Since data stored on the new RIDATA Fingerprint USB Flash Drive can only be accessed through fingerprint verification, the unit provides unsurpassed security," stated Harvey Liu, Advanced Media president. "All of its functions are specifically based on one user's fingerprint, eliminating use by anyone else. It is an easy and convenient means of protecting personal as well as business information from unintended eyes or unscrupulous individuals."

Offering true plug-and-play convenience, the Fingerprint USB Flash Drive is compliant with USB 2.0 with a full-speed transfer rate of up to 480Mbps, and is also compatible with USB 1.1. No external power or battery is needed, as the unit is powered by a USB port on any compatible desktop or laptop computer. A power-saving mode reduces power consumption.

The RIDATA Fingerprint USB Flash Drive works with the following operating systems: Windows(R) 98SE/ME/2000/XP; Linux(TM) Kernal 2.4 or later; and Mac(TM) OS8.6 or later. Users for Windows(R) 98/98SE may download required drivers from www.ritekusa.com. The new flash drive features a read access speed of up to 9MB/sec and a write access speed of up to 8.3MB/sec. It is EMC compliant with CE, FCC, VCCI, C-TICK, and BSMI regulations.

The compact 3" x 0.8" x 0.5", 1.2-lb. RIDATA Fingerprint USB Flash Drive is available in 128, 256, and 512-MB, and 1, 2, and 4-GB capacities. It is currently offered in fashionable colors of pink, blue, and black. It comes with a two-year warranty. Availability will be through selected retailers, RIDATA distributors, and at various online outlets. As with all RIDATA products, it is competitively priced.

The Fingerprint USB Flash Drive joins a RIDATA USB-drive lineup that recently earned the 2006 Taiwan Symbol of Excellence Award presented by the Taiwan National Economic Affairs department. The award recognizes the high standards that Advanced Media insists on regarding quality, design, and research and development innovation as well as market position and brand awareness.

Interesting. Hopefully they will come out with an ultra-tough version, like Lexar's JumpDrive Lightning, Kingston's DataTraveler 2, or Sandisk's Cruzer Titanium. I've been thinking about upgrading from my 1GB JumpDrive Sport for awhile now, but whatever I get needs to be very durable.

I'm also interested in how the biometrics work. Hopefully they're fully embedded, and don't require extra drivers for that part of the unit to function, as it would make the drive impractical for people who would need to use it on large numbers of computers.

Me too. The press release says it doesn't require software so you'd think it would be embedded.
