I wanna watch avi's on my tv...what's a quality graphics card that will allow me to do this with good picture quality.

This is assuming that the avi's I'll be watching will have a resolution of around 700x400

Thanks

I'm sure any modern ATI or nVidia Geforce card would do the trick quite well, although there have been a lot of arguments over which card is better for TV-out quality. You can find discussions about this topic on most hardware forums. Personally, I think ATI cards have a slight edge over the nVidia chip...although I haven't really tested the Geforce4 with TV-out yet.

I would suggest NVIDIA RIVA TNT2 Model 64--excellent.
32 mb-video card.

I would recommend a better video card that uses DDRAM on it. 64MB or 128MB would be an excellent choice for your purpose and would provide better quality than the 32MB that's SDRAM. I would recommend any of Nvidia's GeForce4's with the TV out port or ATI's line of Radeon video cards with a TV out. Just do some research on each of the encoder chips found on the GeForce4 or Radeon series video cards. I would lean more on getting a Radeon, since they are generally better suited for video capture, video playback on tv, and etc.
I have the LeadTek Nvidia GeForce4 Ti4200 128MB VIVO (Video In, Video Out) and I've been very happy with it. It produces nice quality videos on the TV when I have used the TV out feature on it.

I'm sorry, but the amount or even type of RAM in your video card has less than nothing to do with the quality of the card, much less the quality you get from the TV-out.

If you want good TV out, get a card that can do simultaneous TV out and analog monitor out such as the Geforce 4, TNT2, Radeon series, or a matrox with TV out.

The geforce 3(and also the 2's i belive) were made in such a way as to not fully support simultaneous TV and monitor out... this is unacceptable.

Some TNT's are probably not made with the quality components they once were... so I personally would stray away from one if I was not able to view the quality before buying the card.

The geforce4's, Radeon's and newer Matrox cards are all suposed to have excellent TV out capabilities.

I would lean towards the geforce4 if you do gaming and dont want to spend a fortune, the Radeon 7000-7500 series if you just want TV out and gaming is not that important, or the Radeon9700 pro if you have loads of cash and want the best.
