ASUS P4PE: Any Good?

A local dealer can give me this board with a P4 2.4 chip, 80Ghz WD HDD,
not sure which video card (I like the ATI 7500) and would replace the
sound card with SB Audigy2.
It also comes with a Sony 52x24x52 burner but I've read bad reviews about it and much rather have the TDK 48x24x48.
Do I need 512mb of RAM with this system--DDR of course.
He wants $825 less credit for any replacements I make (have to buy at another store). I'm hoping to get my out-the-door price to $650.
Any help or suggestions greatly appreciated.
Need all the input I can get.
Thank you.

Check out www.motherboards.org
They have a bunch of great reviews and info on motherboards.

Here's their rankings of the Top Pentium motherboards.

Gigabyte is kicking serious a**. :P

I had an Asus board (P2b) before this one and it was very fine too, especially the Award bios has some nice touches like power up on space bar that I really liked.

Poppycock! The Intel D845PEBT2 is a marvelous board! Performance = 8 out of 15? Are you kidding?! The board is as solid as a rock! I guess since it's not easily overclockable the so-called "reviewers" at Motherboards.org didn't give it a good score. Pfft! Overclocking isn't all it's cracked up to be.
