I have semi-flat dial-up. I have unlimited access from 8pm to 8am, for about U$S7/month.

There's no broadband available in my neighborhood... and in my city there's only 256/128 ADSL at U$S40/month... :evil:

well,
congratulations to me! i just got ADSL

768Kbit/s download speed deal.
actually got it on a very good deal, only 100 NIS = approx $22 a month,
for the infrastructure (ADSL) provider (the phone company) + the ISP toghether.

(for once, the corporate/monopoly insanity is working in my favor.)

good times for me ahead!

i was excited, going to come here first of all and share the news.
too bad cdrlabs is the ONLY site i'm having bugs with after this upgrade.

cable company that charges $62 a month.

Fortunately my employer helps pay for it.

I haven't checked in a long time, but when I first got it downloads peaked at about 1.2 Mbs if I recall correctly. Uploads are limited to 128 Kbps. By the way, I assume you are getting 768 Kbs, not 768 Mbps. That really would be something!

768 Kbit/sec download, i think 96 Kbit/sec upload.
and i've tested it, and yeah i did manage to peak at some 100KBytes/sec, so i really am getting the speed i'm rated at!

100 KBytes/sec is approximately 800 Kbits/sec, not 800 Mbits/sec. :wink:

768 Mbps is more bandwidth than an OC12 connection has. You could probably handle all Israeli voice traffic on your single line if it were that big a pipe...

(exaggeration, OC12 actually carries only 8064 voice channels, but I think you get the point...)

I suppose that compared to your old 56K dial-up line, your new ADSL line feels like an OC12 line.

yeah, 768Mbit/sec is quite a bit of bandwidth!

surprisingly, it doesn't feel all that fast when browsing web pages, they still take a little time to load.
it's much better than 56K dialup of course, but i guess i'm used to the computers at the places where i work (univ, college) where the network is faster still.
downloading is great though!

An OC-12 in the United States is an STM-4 in Europe. In other words: 622Mbits/sec. Perhaps that helps?

Once you switch to 100Mbps or faster lines, you will have a very very hard time going back to anything slower.

Multiple lines of 100Mbps upload/download here. One line costs US$15 to US$25 per month depending on a few factors. Sending and receiving full 1920x1080 HDTV video files over Internet at home seems to be the only reasonable thing to do with the latest Pentium 4 and recordable DVD technologies. (I mean I don't enjoy the video but just need to do something to justify the existence of this bandwidth solely dedicated to me.)
