Cendyne Going?

Well, Ian, I feel a little foolish about that. I subscribe to the OCR and read that the other day. I guess that I didn't make the association and mention it here.

Anyway, better call tomorrow (if there is anybody left to answer the phone) and inquire as to my rebate. About three months ago I bought the Verbatim badged LiteOn at Best Buy. One oversight: I did not cut out the serial number on the box for submission (usually not required, mostly UPC only). I then received a post card from Cendyne (same address) mentioning that omission, so I sent in the serial number to them (Cendyne).

I'll keep an eye out and post anything else in the OCR.

Ian,

As noted above, I dutifully read the OCR this AM. Another article appeared concerning Cendyne. A judge is shutting them down and putting them in liquidation.

Yup, Unfortunately because of this, I'll be unemployed in a few weeks, after the liquidation preparations are done

I just got an email from CenDyne's PR person. I should say she WAS their PR person. Anyway, she said that the company previously known as CenDyne will be attempting to sell out the remaining stock of CenDyne and Verbatim branded products at a significant discount.

The catch here is that there will be no rebates and no warranties on these products. And no, there won't be any tech support. Just keep this in mind.

I'm not really sure what Verbatim is going to do. With CenDyne getting "jacked" by Test Rite, they're pretty much SOL as far as their drives are concerned.

This is getting close to home. About ten years ago, the biggest high tech we had going around here was that (and the name has completely left me now, AST?) minicomputer outfit at Newland and Slater, then just a couple of years and gone. Now the buildings are occupied by Kingston (ValueRam).

Banshee, have you checked WDC. I hear that they are going great again.

What is your area of expertise? OBE, just checked your profile. I just can't think of any personal contacts in those domains.

Good luck,

After reading this it looks like any one who has rebates from Cendyne won't be getting them.

I wonder when retailers are going to start putting CenDyne drives on clearance. Should make for some great deals!

I am sorry to hear that Banshee!!!
Do you have any interviews lined up?
If it is ANY consolation, the economy has finally started to recover, and the job market (usually a lagging indicator) should start to improve, although it may take till year end.

Many of us have CenDyne/Verbatim rebates outstanding (only $30 in my case - I felt that CenDyne might be in trouble, based on delays in getting earlier rebate checks, but couldn't resist a DVD+RW drive for so little after rebate, especially since OfficeMax will hopefully do the right thing for its customers), but that is nothing compared to losing a job :(

Some people have had CenDyne rebate checks mailed as recently as this past Friday... Maybe that is a good sign.
