The End of an Era

Well, after 27 years, that's it. The Concorde is no more. This is one huge step backwards for the world. We have now gotten rid of the only "time machine."
The reason why I call it a time machine is because you get to New York at an earlier time than you left London at.

To this day, it still looks more modern than any other commercial aircraft...
Interesting timing for this post:
On the way home tonight, I read an article in today's NY Daily News that stated how many serious problems Concorde airfcraft have had (including a plunge of 27,000 feet in one instance and parts falling off on other occasions! I am not making this up). This was at least partly because of the age of the planes, the article stated.
The author discussed some serious problems, even AFTER the overhauls were completed after the deadly crash several years ago.
The point of the article, written by a politician on the aviation subcommittee, was that it is a good thing that the Concorde was being grounded. His words, not mine.
Apparently flight occupancy rates have dropped to about 20% lately!
My parents took a Concorde flight years ago.
They brought back nice souvenirs for the kids, including sterling silver Concordes (the size of pins or broches) and nice blue slippers.

as i recall, maintaining the Concorde in service was not economically viable, neither for British Airways nor for Air France.
just a Jet-Set luxury.
the world isn't really ready yet for supersonic passanger transport i guess.
it was a beautiful craft though.

I agree, too. I wish they would make some new Concordes; I think it was good that the old ones were retired, but it is sad that no new ones will be made (as far as I know).

You are right CDRecorder when you say that they are not making new one's.By the way what is the use of manufacturing new aircrafts if they are not used for what they are intended to be used?

The Concorde has set more than 180 records, including the fastest flight around the world (31 hr 27 min 49 sec at an average speed of 1,305.93 km/h). Most famous for having a cruising speed of 2,170 km (1,350 mph), more than twice the speed of sound.
I am very sad to see it go.........
