What brand CD burner should I buy next?

I'm looking to try to own one of very major brand of CD burners... I already have LiteON, LG, and Plextor made burners. So, which brand should I buy next?

(*note: I said I ALREADY have a Plextor, I don't need another!)

I'm thinking maybe an AOpen. Remember, I'm not looking for a quality burner, I just want a representative from every major manufacturer (no OEMs!).

1. Samsung
2. BenQ
3. Accestech/Optorite (=MSI ?)

i would go for a Samsung first.
maybe their 52/24/52/16 combo.

Hmm...how about a Plextor?

Oh wait...

Ok, ok....I'd say either Optorite (because I've got one of their DVD burners) or a Samsung.

I think that AOpen, Samsung, and Benq would be good choices, as they are often re-badged by other manufacturers.

Edit: Maybe an LG would be a good choice, too.

I'm not sure I want to delve into the world of combo drives... it makes the drive more expensive, and they are less common then regular burners.

A samsung drive might not be a bad idea... although I have to see if I can get one at a good price

You're like me except I have optical drives [not all burners] from almost every major manufacturer [LG, Toshiba, LiteON, Samsung, Pioneer, TDK].

There's one other manufacturer I have as well : Yamaha.

I thought you were trying to get your hands on a Yammy F1?

I do have a Yamaha CRW-F1.... it just isn't PHYSICALLY with me at the moment. It's in transit. I expect it to arrive any day now, but I'm not exactly sure how long it will take to get to my place in Vancouver, coming from Virginia in the U.S.

Get a Plextor!

Try for a Benq, or Samsung though.

Mmm, I've always wanted to try Samsung too. How about this though...TEAC! :)

Samsung 348B. It was born with issues but Samsung Engineers somehow recovered it with continuous firmware updates. Right now it's the only other drive I use except for my litey 411. Also I'll vouch for my 348B over my Liteon 52327S anytime...

Btw, I returned my 7S - Happy! .

Good advice but little too late for me though. I have kept my extra drives in separate locations because, last thing I want is to meet my conscience / common sense and my stack of superfluous drives at the same place. Hadn't I shot the money on some of the drives with few X increments, I could've put it to good use. :(

Not to offend any of you who collect drives for research and other useful purposes. :)

Yeah, I know what you mean. I currently have 3 CD-RW drives and at least 5 CD-ROMs that are not in computers.

CD-ROM drives? Does anyone still use those? I honestly can't justify the cost of one compared to a CD-Burner! I can get a CD Burner for $39.99 CDN, and a CD-ROM for $24.99..... for $15.00 more I always go with a CD Burner! (when making other people's new computers)

I don't use CD-ROM drives any more; that's why they're all sitting in the closet. ;)

Edit: Well, actually, my 486 100MHz computer has a CD-ROM, but the 486/100 sits in the closet, too.

I buy them used cheap from RFD. I just want something with better access times than my burners, and to save a bit of wear and tear on the burners.

Plus I'm a lazy bugger. I hate to constantly swap CD's in and out when I can just leave some in. :P

Here here! That's why I try to stuff as many optical drives into one case as I can. :)
