Buy a item that is going to go on sale soon then return it for the difference and to get the mail in rebates so your reicept says the correct dates? Like rebuy it after you return it or something like that.

As long as it's within the stores return policy and you have the receipt, some will refund the differance on the spot.

Most stores will give you the difference, however some are anal about printing out new receipts for mail in rebates. Of course, if you're nice the customer service person would probably let you return it and then buy it again.

Does bestbuy, compusa, officemax, office depot, and circuit city all allow you to do this? Has anyone had any problems with any of them ? Which ones were you successful with if you ever did this?

I bought a TI 4200 when they were still 250 and 36 days later it went on sale for like 70 bucks cheaper plus a 10 buck gift certificate. I'm like all bummed so I go in and say hey it's over your 30 day price match. They say OH no problem and spent like a half hour trying to figure it out. They went ahaed and refunded 70 bucks and gave me the 10 dollar gift certificate also. It took them a while becuase they weren't sure what hoops to jump through for the gift part, not because they didn't want to take care of me. If your within the date you should be fine. It really depends on the store management if you end up like I did but so far CC, Costco, and BB have all treated me well on refunds and price matches.

I purchased a Sound Blaster card at Fry's and CreativeLabs started a $20 rebate a few days later. Fry's let me return the Sound Blaster, and then re-purchase it so I could get a new receipt with the proper date on it for the rebate.

A bit of a hassle, but "Hey, it's $20!"

Nice :)
Which place was this?

I tried to exchange a BLANK SEALED Memorex DVD+RW (about two years ago) WITH RECEIPT when they were $15 a piece at BB (on sale at $10), because I had returned my DVD+RW drive and had bought a DVD-R.
It was about 33 days after the purchase. They had gone back to normal price (I had bought it on sale), so they would actually be able to sell it for more than I paid.

The first BB told me they couldn't do it; the computer wouldn't allow them to.

At the second one the girl may not have noticed the date was over 30 days. I exchanged it for a Pioneer DVD-R disc ($10.99 or $11.99 back then for ONE disc) and paid the difference.

The 1st store didn't make an effort to satisfy me, especially considering the disc was sealed and I had my receipt. The disc could have easily been put back on the shelf.

BB is actually pretty stringent about their 30 day return policy.

I did buy a laptop at BB with a $100 rebate. 3 days later the rebate got increased to $150.

I was able to go to BB and have them return & rebuy so I could take advantage of the $150 rebate.

CompUSA has the worst return policy for a B&M store, you can only return within 14 days and if you open the package they charge you 15% or give you a gift card.I remember in my retail days shady customers would come into the store with no receipt and demand a refund when I knew they stole it but the store manager would give them a refund because he didn't have a spine.
