Anybody hear about when they're starting to shut stores down?

That's what I heard. Not the entire chain, but supposedly they're going to start shutting down stores. At least that's what I heard...

It may just be that they are closing one or two stores. I remember Office Depot closed a store near me a few years ago, it wasn't anything big, they just wanted to close that store because it wasn't profitable.

Just got a letter from a friend whom I asked about it...heard that supposedly they're starting off with the closure of 30+ stores. *shrug*

It could be, as aviationwiz pointed out, a matter of cutting off the diseased limbs (i.e. the stores that are not profitable). The real trick is to find out whether or not OfficeMax is opening any new stores in other locations. If they do open new stores, then you won't have to worry about them going under...at least not any time soon. If they continue to close stores without opening new ones, then I fear this is the beginning of the end for OfficeMax.

Several years ago OfficeMax and OfficeDepot wanted to merge but the federal anti-trust bunch refused it. Just like the refused United Airlines and US Air to merge; now they are both in bankruptcy.
