Mandrake 10.0, kernel 2.6, KDE 3.2...super simple and fast install, zero issues, everything tweaked just the way I want it all in less than an hour!

10.0 rocks, by the way...

Yup, I've got the "Community" release (read: beta). Works fine!

It's so nice only having to change three little settings after the install for it to be "tweaked" the way I like. With Windows, it takes FOREVER installing every app, uninstalling the stupid junk like IE, and adding the updates. Lets not forgot the reboot required after just about every little thing!

This installed almost everything I want; I just slapped Firebird on, installed the extensions I need for Firebird, imported my old book marks and thats it!

Can't really tell much of a speed difference yet...I haven't been doing anything except downloading with Pan...

At least it has Hyperthreading support. Still waiting for the 64-Bit version 10 final; then I'll nab an Athlon 64 (with the 2800+ version out now (or soon), the price should be just right!). I'm quite hesitant to upgrade now with all the new mobo's coming out...But 20% speed boost over 32-bit? Yeah, I'll take that. Although it'd rock to have one of the 3700+'s when it comes out in May. Or 4000/4200+ early next year.

I hate to say it, but the lack-luster performance of my old 2.4GHz P4C (and this 2.6GHz system) has made me want to switch to AMD.

I have been a firm AMD supporter for a long time due to overclock ability.I have a barton 2500+ thats running at 2520 actual mhz.Watercooled of course.I have a danger den waterblock that has a built in peltier cold plate I just havent added the peltier element due to how much more can I get out of this CPU honestly. The athlon 64's are great overclocking chips so far as I have heard. When they get the 4000+'s down to affordable levels I will buy one.

I am using a 5 gallon resevoir and dual heater cores each with 2 120 mm fans. I have been batch encoding for the last 24 hrs straight and the CPU temp is 39 C and the air in the case is 24 C. I am very happy with this case. Its the X SuperAlien from xoxide. Should of seen the last case I had. I had made extensions for other drives to stick out of it. It was a mini tower case with 5 opticals and 4 ides. It was supposed to hold 3 opticals 2 ides. Dremel and welding gear come in handy :) Still had water cooling too. Airflow was restricted to say the least. The only thing I have thought about doing was water cooling my video card. Just havent had the need yet. I dont play games on the computer so its not overclocked and havent justified the expensive waterblocks. (Geforce 5900 vid card)

I clicked the "Buy" button, added it to my cart, moved to check out, all the while waiting for a page to display saying "What, are you nuts?!? Isn't it obvious this is a joke?" But it never displayed, and now I will be getting a $120 Tinker Toy in three days. :o :(

Okay, I didn't actually order it, but the rest is true and I still can't believe it is real!

I still like this one the best, slap a nice PSU in it, and you're done:

Call me a traditionialist...

And I HATE those stupid Antec cases (and all of the 52 billion clones) that everyone seems to have. Especially those "Xaser" cases

Wait for 10.0 final; the community release has a couple of nasty bugs. Like XMMS bringing down the whole X-Server, KDE, and all running apps. But, unlike, Windows, no reboot needed...just hit CTRL+ALT+Backspace!

You know, KDE 3.2.1 is out. Not sure if it makes much of a difference though.

Mandrakelinux-10.0-Community-Download-CD1.i586.iso
Mandrakelinux-10.0-Community-Download-CD2.i586.iso

MandrakeMove is the "live" version; ie, it only runs from the CD.

There IS a CD #4 out there; I've got it, and needed it for some of the software I wanted (XMMS, WINE, and a couple of others).

If you've got a good news provider, check that group...

I used bit torrent to download it. Just finished. Will post results after I install it. I may just give it a shot in Vmware first though since it is a beta.
