Apparently a videotape was obtained showing the girl, who claimed to have been abducted, buying duct tape and all the other items found in the marsh where she was found.

QUOTES:
For example, the honor student told police that after taking her at knifepoint, her captor used duct tape, rope, cold medicine, a gun and a knife to keep her under his control.

Although those items were found in the marsh where she was located, buttressing her account, police obtained videotape Thursday that showed Seiler entering a Madison store and buying those items, he said.

Also, during the time she said she was held captive, two witnesses reported having seen her apparently "walking freely" in different areas of the city, he said.

Someone used her computer during the time she was missing. Also, he said, the computer had been used to look up a five-day weather forecast and search wooded areas in and around Madison.

Yep, she's a student at the university where I work. My wife got mad at me when I told her there was something fishy when they found her. Now I get to rub it in that I was right. :D

The whole thing was very odd. Within two days of her being gone, there were missing person signs all over campus. Most people would have to be gone a week or two before that happened.

Funny thing, 24 hours before they found her I was observing to a friend that judging by her past (found with a wound to her head, claimed attacked, no evidence) and the way she disappeared (walked off from her apartment, observed by security camera but no abductor), that I wondered if she might not have a behavioral disorder and had carried all of this out on her own.

FBI stats indicate most kidnappings of a sexual nature end in the subject's death, usually within 48 hours of the kidnapping. Sobering thoughts, I'm sure that statistic is a major part of why the Amber Alert system has been implemented nationwide. For her to just turn up, especially twice, would be highly unusual.

Dodec, I found a large sized pic of Bill at one point on the `Net, cut him down for just the face, then resized in Photoshop.

I love BC as well, I really miss Berke Breathed. His new comic with Opus hasn't gotten picked up by the local paper, unfortunately. :(

Without BC, I've got to settle for "Get Fuzzy" and PvP. Good stuff, though not the combination of politics and normal irreverence about everyday life that Berke was good at. I know he idolized Doonesbury and Gary Trudeau, but I never found that funny; perhaps the early years were funny and I missed them.

what do you mean by his "new" comic? do you mean Outland? (if i'm recalling the name right).

i have all (i think) of the Bloom County books published, and about half (last time i checked) of the Outland books. though haven't read all of the m yet.

no matter how many times i've read it, re-reading Bloom County sends me into a laughing fit!
god, what a talent.

I should also point out that the avatar is actually a picture of JamieW as a child. That's him spazzing out after I took away his Michael Jackson jacket.

That is the first instance of avatar commandeering I have seen so far.
If it becomes a trend, it will be harder to identify posters at a glance, when browsing a thread.

Ian, that was objectively funny.

Veff, I will keep you up to date on my commandeerings.

Nope, not Outland. (and you do have the name right)

Berke has a new one. To read more, go to his webpage:

http://www.berkebreathed.com

Enjoy. :)

P.S. If you don't own it, look for a used copy of his BC treasury, "Classics of Western Literature: Bloom County 1986-1989". It hits all the high points and is a must have.
