Last night I got my new motherboard(DFI LAnparty revB) and CPU (Mobile Athlon 2600+ ). They were replacing my old setup which was a DFI lanparty rev A and a Barton 2500+. I got it up and running and got some screenshots of an incredible overclock. I had it running 2700 actual mhz at 1.85 Volts.Everything was peachy then all of a sudden the computer shutdown no power. So I go over and try to figure out what happened and looked inside the case to see flourescent purple water pouring out. One of the water lines got nicked and busted. The worst part is it dumped over a gallon from the 5 gallon resevoir which had evaporated and I didnt have any distilled water on hand so I used tap water which conducts electricity unlike distilled.I am pissed to say the least.I hope it didnt fry anything. I am going to take it out of the case later this evening and pour some Everclear(190 proof drinking alcohol) on it to wash the purple dye off of it and then let it dry and hope it works.

yeah stories like this make me not wanna do water cooling

i think my 7 120mm fans and 4 80mm fans will do nicely though

That sucks that one of the lines got cut, but from what I know about water cooling, they always specifically tell you to only use distilled water and not anything else.

Not even just distilled water -- de-ionized distilled water. Only way to ensure that not only will there not be conductivity issues, but also that there is nothing in the water that could cause corrosion if components were immersed in it, and also ensure that the water doesn't get infested with little nasties over time. If you decide to use dye, you'll want non-organic stuff too.

I usually used distilled but I figured hey I have been watercooling for a couple years no problem and didnt have any on hand so I topped it off with tap. The dye I use came from xoxide specifically for watercooling. It also has redline water wetter in it for corrosion and it dropped the temp a little.

well its up and running sort of. It powers on now but the AGP slot is dead. Also the power supply trips if I hook up the p4 4 pin power connector. Video card works fine in this system and boy am I glad as its pretty expensive(Geforce 5900 Ultra 256 mb). The CPU works in this computer as does the RAM. I am tired of working on it now.Tomorrow I will take the motherboard out and try cleaning it some more before I order another one
