http://www.tomshardware.com/graphic/20040414/index.html

if you look at some of the benchmarks, the scores are almost triple that of the 9800xt

and also the min FPS on 6800 ultra is more then the average FPS on the 9800xt

any bets on how much $$$ this card is gonna be

FYI if you want to read a decent review, head over to beyond3d.com.

Toms and Anand are two of the more biased reviewers on the net when it comes to GPUs.

That being said, the NV40 is an impressive core, just be sure you set aside some extra money for a new PSU in addition to the card.

The Ultra version will cost $499, same as the last 2 rounds of high-end cards.

LOL you should read the review a bit closer. The NV40 has two molex connectors on the card in addition to pulling juice via the AGP port. Under load, it's estimated to pull 150 watts. The two molex connectors should not share the line with any device other than a case fan and each molex connector should be on a different line.

nVIDIA recommends a 480 watt minimum PSU.

Regarding performance, read some other reviews, so you get the full picture. Tom and Anand are nVIDIA's butt bois. Objectivity in the press is a lost concept with those two.

ATI cards typically do better in Direct3D and nVIDIA cards perform better in OGL.

I would think you would be more surprised if the NV40 wasn't faster in most benches than cores that are several months old. That isn't exactly an apples to apples comparison.

I'm sure when the R420 comes out, the NV40 will be faster in some benches and the R420 will be faster in others, but they will both be within 5% of each other.

Might want to wait and see what appears on the 26th with only one molex connector.

Heh, R420! Hopefully the damn 9800Pro prices will drop then :P
Speaking of which, taz, did you like the [H]'s review of the NV40? It seemed a bit.. strange to me, no apples-to-apples comparisions, just the"best gameplay experience".

hehe...

I visited with the CIO of nVidia a few weeks ago, and played with some of the toys...

Unfortunately, I'm forbidden to disclose the details due to non-disclosure agreements...
