My first baby is born

My first baby is out. We are in a hospital in Yoido, Seoul. Here's her first photo. Her name is Yoojin Shin.

http://www.sungmocmc.com/siteboard/baby.asp?id=2422&Wb_N=baby&page=1&depth=0&step=0&tid=2425

She weighed 2.13 kilogram at first. 35 weeks and three days. She is not in a very dangerous state but not healthy enough to go home yet.

Elly, my wife's here beside me watching screen while I type this. The docs just told us we, mother and father only, can go home tomorrow. She had C-section at 4 PM on Sunday, April 18, 2004. About 30 minutes later, the baby came out of the surgery room and went straight into another room for some tests and care. She can breathe alone at least. She seems active and healthy, but we were not allowed to touch her, perhaps to prevent contamination. I recorded her moving on my mobile phone, pictures, audio, and video. I'll later upload them on web when I have the necessary cable to connect the phone with PC.

Elly screamed and cried a lot, couldn't move a bit for two days, had no sleep for three days, but now she's OK.

Since this hospital is nearly 100 kilometers from our home and I have no car now, I couldn't bring her wheelchair on Sunday. I have to buy another anyway.

i'm so happy for you!

hope Elly gets well soon.
and the baby too.

what's the baby's name?

if you don't mind my asking, why did Elly need to have a C section operation?

Thank you, everyone. :D

@dodecahedron

Elly suggested the baby's name already sometime in last autumn. It's Yoojin Shin, Shin being my family name.

There are two reasons for the C-secion I am aware of.

1. cerebral palsy: this makes her legs extremely difficult to move.

2. baby position: the doc told us the baby is somewhat mispositioned which I don't really know about.

In many cases in South Korea, hospitals recommend C-secion for profits. Must be several times more profitable than the usual way.

Monte,

You are a weird dude. When I was your age, I was thinking about drinking, school, and getting booty. Those mormons do crazy work on the young mind.

Heh.. I'm old and married and I still think about drinking and booty..

Mormons are very family oriented. Most have huge families. A guy I work with has like 8 kids.

Kenny, I can very much understand the cerebral palsy issue. I dated a gal for over four years who had it (was in a wheelchair), and the stiffness associated with the spasticity would make normal delivery a problem in quite a few cases, and a risk for both the baby and the mother. I'm glad both Mom and baby are doing well. :)

congrats kenny.
My sister(born in Seoul)had her baby the 11th of April.
The c-sections here in the states mostly deal with the way the baby is positioned.

Congratulations Kennyshin!
I wish you and your family all the best, and may the baby be healthy!

Having a baby is a special moment in one's life!

I love seeing and playing with my one year old niece when we have family get togethers. She's a bundle of fun!
Oh the innocence and beauty of youth...

Elly suggested it. She says, "I don't know."

The name Yoojin is used for either male or female in South Korea and it can be easily typed and pronounced in English, and there are many Chinese characters for the two words. Usually, Korean words have no meaning by themselves but they can have meanings when they are associated with Chinese characters. For example, Kyounghoon, my Korean name, has no meaning by itself, but the Chinese character Kyoung (or Gyoung) meanings to light and Hoon in Chinese means successful contributions to the dynasty. Of course, there are various Chinese characters that are prounced Gyoung or Hoon and only one of them has respective meaning. We haven't decided the meaning. For it, we have to look for Chinese dictionaries - a must for the learned in traditional Korea.

Yoojin is going through further tests and care. Elly was allowed to go home already in the yesterday afternoon but we decided to go home together with Yoojin when she is ready.

BTW, I bought another wheelchair for Elly. Paid 210,000 Won including shipping. 16kg. It's new so in almost perfect condition.

Of course. We are now back home, plus baby plus my mom. The only problem is that I haven't found necessary cables to copy and move files on my Sony camera. We moved on April 3 to another apartment, just across the street and I haven't reinstalled my systems properly. The pictures I took at hospital's also not available online yet. But I'll upload video and photos on web servers surely when I can. :D
