Black Friday Dissapointment?

Well, it was quite clear out this mroning as I was driving up the coast highway towards Long Beach. Waiting offshore for berthing, were about 2 dozen of those super container ships. The Ports of Long Beach and Los Angeles have been at capacity for some time now with a resultant queue forming offshore.

I'm just wondering if this will have any impact on the Black Friday sales if they can't get this stuff to the big boxes in time?

That's what airplanes are for, :P

Anyways, I don't think Black Friday can get any worse than this past Black Tuesday.

BTW, that's no typo.

Please show me where *I* said that. Not all liberals are alike, an not all conservatives are alike. Thank you.

I wouldn't be too concerned about the Black Friday sales. The Walmart by my house already has a crapload of trailers behind the store.. all full of stuff for the holiday season. The shipping companies will still be working overtime to get stuff to store shelves in time.

I bet companies like Koch are making small fortune's on just each individual store. For those that don't know, Koch stocks I know a good amount of Best Buy stores, and they stock Circuit City I think too, along with who knows what else. I remember last Black Friday, I saw a Koch freight truck leaving BBY the early hours of the morning morning of Black Friday, talk about late supply arrivals!

And then you have UPS, FedEx, DHL, etc. who will be overloaded with packages. I expect UPS to temporarily discontinue the UPS Ground Money back Guarantee in early December.

Honestly, do you think anyone could trace it back to you if you posted virtually anomalously on a forum about it? I doubt it would be too cost effective to try and force Ian to give up your IP, and then force your ISP to give up your addy...

OK, Hox, we love ya' buddy and we want no ill to befall you. So if you deign to do us that favor, disguise your self and sign up again with a new handle, like CowboyHox.

Anyway, I was at my Staples yesterday and got that Canoscan 4200F and the $20 gift rebate and tried out their new rebate system. Far better than MadDog because I am certain that I'll get it.

Black Friday does look good for me because my Staples is in the same building as my Circuit City. I a fixin' to be out of both and across the street to my Office Depot by 6:45!

Ian: Those trailers outback of your Wal*Mart are not for transporting merchandise; they are the employee baracks.

The day after Thanksgiving, november 26.

The origin of Black Friday comes from the shift to profitability during the holiday season. Black Friday was when retailers went from being unprofitable, or "in the red," to being profitable, or "in the black", at a time when accounting records were kept by hand and red indicated loss and black profit.

LOL
the excellent US TV show "Homicide - Life on the Street" is called in Hebrew "Homicide - from Red to Black", because the case names on the case board are Red when the murder is unsolved (as yet), Black when the case is closed (solved).

I always thought it was called black friday either because 1) it's evil how they wait until that one day, all year long, to give you really good deals or 2) how most deals are based on rebates, which are evil. But UAL, your definition makes much more sense, and is much less pessimistic. :)

These companies go to great lengths to protect their Black Friday ads. Every year, they hire teams of lawyers to threaten all of the "hot deal" websites because they always leak the ads a week or two early. Now they usually just give a list of items and prices and say its a "rumored" list.

Thanks.

Here in Canada, most Calendars have US holidays, but not all of them.

I'll mark my calendar now and get ready for some online action.

Wow, what a coincidence. This was just announced:

The Service Guarantee does not apply to UPS commercial and residential Ground shipments that are picked up or scheduled to be delivered between December 12 and December 24. See the Terms and Conditions of Service for full Service Guarantee Details.

From what I've seen so far, the sales really suck this year.
