I am looking for my first laptop (hopefully a Black Friday deal or maybe a late-breaking Dell deal). Also figuring on getting the new Minolta Digital SLR 8) . I have a TON of pro-level Maxxum gear that I have not touched nearly enough since I went digital and when I go take pictures with my friends I am jealous as hell  as they play with their digital rebels.

Already bought an Antec P160 Performance One case, and all the modding gear (blowhole accessories, cable sleeving/wiring/organizing kits, fans, silencing material, etc.) to rebuild my machine into a truly cool semi-quiet case. Also upgraded to a LiteOn 167 DVD-ROM, and an NEC 3500A. Project is nearing completion, I shall post pictures when done. Of course, every time I accomplish something, I think of yet another way I could improve it just that teensy bit more (FrozenCPU and a few other merchants probably like me a whole lot right now).

What I want Santa to bring me: a Logitech MX-1000 wireless Laser optical mouse. A copy of Half-Life 2 (if I don't obtain it first). I can't think of much else that I don't already have, but perhaps I'll add two 512MB sticks of PC-3200 DDR, and some family members can split that purchase. Already have an iPod and a 1GB USB drive, and a PDA phone (all provided at work), and any other toys than the above I want are more expensive than I'd be willing to ask for from my family. They already got together (thanks to my lovely wife) and bought me a Fuj FinePix S5000 camera for my birthday back in August. :)

I'm on my way right now to pick up a Canon A85 at Circuit City.

Wiz: Note that I am not relying on UPS of FedEx. :P

I wouldn't rely on the shipping if there's a chance it could be FedEx either. :P But for stuff like Circuit City, CUSA, BBY, places like that, I always go to the store.

Ok I spent 4 hours shopping today!!!

Shopping accomplished so far:

1) iPod + hp 40 GB MP3 player - my first MP3 player!!
Image

I was going to buy the Dell DJ20 , but I found the 40 GB iPod at CostCo today for only $380.00. Dell was going to make me wait 3 weeks for the DJ 20 to ship, so I decided I wanted the iPod now. :D

I also bought the iPod FM broadcast accessory so I can listen to all my music in any car I drive.

2) Canon A95 digital camera at Best Buy ($350) - to replace my Nikon coolpix 4300 that is just too slow.

Image

I can't wait to use this thing!!

3) Panasonic PV-GS120 miniDV camcorder ($590 after 12% off reward zone coupon) - to replace my Canon ZR70MC camcorder that is on the fritz right now. This baby has 3 CCDs and is the highest rated camcorder in its class.

3 down a few more to go!!!! :-?

Y'know, as cool as my iPod is (have the 30GB touch-wheel version), having an in-dash MP3 player in the car (Kenwood KDC-MP822) means I don't use the iPod much. It's nice to be able to just burn a ton of tracks off to CD whenever I want and do it that way. Coupled to four Infinity Reference shallow-mount 6.5"'s, that's all I really need.

"Right now I am saving for a Tiffany's ring. About 6000."

Aren't you still in high school? Two months, dude, not twenty. I'd damn near go homo for a big spender like you. Let me know when you come out.

Monte, to whom does it go? Jenn?

What king of restocking fee does Tifany's charge in case the deal doesn't go through?

My wife wanted a diamond engagement ring, but I didn't spend even CLOSE to six grand, and she knows that as well. Though I did sell one of my two racing bicycles and my Escort Passport 8500 to pay for it, which I think gave her an understanding of what she's worth to me. By the way, once you have read a bit more about the DeBeer's diamond monopoly/scam/marketing ploy, and all the war, death, violence and grief it's caused Africa, you'll understand why. A diamond is a big shiny rock. It looks nice, and it sparkles. But it ain't love, and it can't buy love either.

A diamond isn't the part that is forever. If you work at it, love can be. Forget the expensive diamond and concentrate on the love part first. Trust me on that one.

P.S. The "you should save three months' salary for your engagement ring" line is marketing BS by DeBeers too. The diamond industry thought that one up. Why have a house when you can have a big shiny rock?

At the beginning of the year, there were 2 things that I wanted, a LCD Monitor and a DVD Burner. I already bought a Dell 20.1" 2001fp LCD, due to my previous monitor breaking down, so that's marked off the list. I also picked up a laptop a few weeks back, so there's a another high priced thing I don't need to pick up during the holiday season.

That just leaves me with 2 tech items that I want before the year is over:
- A 16X DVD Burner, probably a Plextor PX-716A if Ian gives it a 10/10
- A Linksys WRT54G Wireless Router, to replace the SMC Barricade I have now

Besides those tech items, always on the look out for vintage Nike sneakers and other toys that intrigue me.

UALOneKPlus, I'm glad you like the iPod too. I personally have a 10GB and its a really nice MP3 player, but I only have it filled up with 7-8GB worth of music.

MonteLDS, thats way too much for an engagement ring. This girl better be worth it.

BuddhaTB: I don't think that Ian will have the Plextor PX-716A by the end of the year. In lieu of waiting, I may go for the NEC ND-3500A.

MonteLDS: Whom is the ring for, Jenn or Newbie? What is the Tiffany rebate history, better than MadDog?
