I'm thinking this is a good thing... but I hope Maxtor doesn't end up bringing down Seagate to their level. I love my Seagate drives for their quiet performance, and 5year warranties :D

It would be cool if they did change their name to Maxgate, it sounds much better than Seator

Based on my experiences (which, I am 100% certain, will directly contradict someone else's who will post a response), I would LOVE this if the combined company uses Seagate's ATA/SATA drives and Maxtor's SCSI drives.

I've had 3 Seagate SCSI drives fail on me (percentage-wise... I'm like 3 for 3 in failures in under a year) and very good luck with Maxtor. I've never bought a Maxtor ATA but have heard pretty horrible things of late (but some machines at work with Maxtor drives built in have been fine..?) but Seagate seems rock solid.

This is scary, as it could be a VERY good merger or a VERY bad merger.
