Hmm.. Why does MS waste their time with crap like this when there are security holes that need to be patched?

They will show up. You just need to click the box next to "Show Updates" up on top.

Hox,

It appears "patches" to kill all of this are already commonly available as torrents on rather well known tracker sites. It wasn't difficult to find; if I did, anyone who has even a basic understanding of Bittorrent could.

That's why I chose to download the updates, but let me choose when to run them. I then choose Custom (for advanced users :o ) and you can read all about the patch there before you apply it. There's even an option to cancel the install and never be notifed of this patch again!.

Auto updates with XP usually cause more problems than they solve.

The next logical step for MS should be simply give you the 14 day count down and then it kills the XP install totally.

For you and I, I agree. For the average user though, without auto-updates I'd have tons of clients getting hit by the latest security issue. While I'd love to make more money off them, it shouldn't be because I left their computer open.

It is possible to remove the WGA update through editing the Windows Registry and deleting a few files in Safe mode. That way, you can get rid of the update, reboot, then choose never to have it installed again. But dat's all I'm sayin'.
