This MUST be the Twilight Zone...

...because I actually LIKE (really like!) Vista, I like Windows Media Player 11 (actually grabbed it for XP awhile ago), and IE7 isn't even a totally annoying POS! I almost like it! I really like the tab preview button. Opera needs that.

Me liking Windows/WMP/IE is right up there with hoxlund buying software (), so this has to be the Twilight Zone :)

I've got a new video card coming soon (X1800XT, up from a 6600GT) and will probably try the 64-bit version then...

I've been using IE7 under XP for months and I love it. No need for Firefox.

I got to use the 64 bit version for about ten minutes Sunday before the transformer blew up on the electrical pole. Vista is now toasted so I'll format and try the 32 bit version by Tuesday.

Has anyone else noticed that the 64 bit version is sluggish? Don't know if its my system (x2 3800 w/2 gigs of ram ) or if it needs some tweaking to lower the overhead.

I've done both; I still like Firefox better. I just don't care for IE 7's interface, it seems that they attempted to dumb it down so much that they confused me more. I guess it just doesn't mesh with the interface guidelines programmed into my brain.

I got my test machine ready for Vista this weekend only to find that the DVD drive was behaving wonky. A new one should be here tomorrow, and then installation will commence.

Personally, I'm a nVidia man. But this time...the X1800XT is just as fast as a 7900GT in most games, blows it out of the water in Oblivion, and can be had for $240 if you grab the 256MB version (vers. $300). I got the $300, 512MB version - 2x the memory of the 7900GT!

Performance wise the differance between the 256MB & 512MB versions is zip...now. I'm hoping the 512MB helps when Crysis ships - it's my "big" game for now. Quake Wars/Prey won't be too much more hardware-intensive than Q4, so no problems there (2048x1536 w/4xAA @ ~35+FPS). Considering my monitor only goes to 1600x1200, this thing is gonna rock :)

Besides, it just seemed wrong to put a 6600GT into a 2.66GHz Core 2 Duo!

I do HATE how their stupid control panel needs .NET, though...

Thanks, Hoxlund. I did get the 32 bit version installed yesterday and it does work better.

I'll give the 64 bit version another try after I locate another hard drive...it might have been a bad install or flaky drive the first time around.

Are you using a third party firewall on Vista?

bill, most 3rd party firewalls will not work with Vista...However, here's a free beta one (links on MS's site somewhere, but they like to bury it):
