Just wondered if anybody around here really uses CD-RW discs and DVD + or - RW discs, and if so, what do you use them for, or what burning or packet writing app do you use with them.

For awhile I was using CD-RWs with InCD, but I haven't for awhile.

Occasionally I use them as temporary storage if I'm running low on disk space, but that's pretty rare. Honestly, which cheap media DVDRs being as little as $0.10, the economics of RW just don't work.

I used to use DVDRWs RARELY, but since I got my 4GB flash drives, I've never had a need. I *DO* use DVD-RAM in my DVD Recorder though

i used to use CDRWs quite a lot for temporary backups, data transfers from one place to another etc. now i hardly use them, i've plenty (good ones too!) that are brand new!

i use DVD+RWs for the same purposes + but primarily to watch backed up movies on the living-room DVD player.

if i had a 4GB USB drive i'd probably use them a little less, but i don't, these things are dreadfully expensive around here. but then like i said the main usage is for burning videos to watch on the living room player.

i have lots of DVD+RWs too bough a 25 spindle, that was a mistake.

i'm intending to get (or at least try to) some DVD-RAM for data backup.

a long long time ago i used to burn CDRWs with DirectCD4 (university computer). later gave InCD a try on my home computer but gave that up very quickly. since then i just use a regular burning app: usually Nero, sometimes burnatonce. now also ImgBurn of course.

I used to use DVD+RW's when recording TV shows with my DVD recorder but I have so many old DVD+R discs, I've been trying to use those up.

I use CD-RW for testing purposes when I want to test how something will work before burning it to CD-R.

I use DVD+/-RW for similar testing purposes but only rarely.

I also use DVD+RW for performing weekly backups of data on my pc to four different discs (new disc every week) using Nero BackItUp, and when they have all been filled up, I transfer the lot to a single DVD+/-R by using the Optimize function in UltraISO (most of the files don't change between backups).

DVD+RW is very well suited for "multi-session" burns, because unlike other DVD media a DVD+RW looks and behaves like a single-session disc when recorded in this way, so all the image tools that have problems with multi-session discs don't have any problems with a DVD+RW disc.

And finally I use DVD+/-RW to transfer recordings from my HDD/DVD Recorder to my pc, where I transfer the content to DVD+/-R after performing necessary cleanup and sometimes additional authoring.

I have saved several hundreds of blank CD-R and DVD+/-R media in this way.

I use RW's for backups, as other people have mentioned, as well as for Unix distributions. Some flavors of Unix update often, therefore I burn a version on RW, erase it when a newer version comes out, then burn the newer version.

nope none. I used to use cdrw's for xbox stuff way back when but now I dont own any RW's of any kind. I dont see the point. I have a few large flash drives that are faster and more convenient.

I use DVD+RW's to watch movies on the DVD player.No important data on any RW.

I use my Mitsubishi 32x 700mb CD-RW discs on occasion.

I seldom use the DVD+RW discs though.

Depends on the operation.


But I now have an external firewire hdd that is faster than DVD+R...

I use DVD+RW for testing video compilations- mostly 8x, now that they're available. I bought a 5-pack and still have 3 unopened, though.

CD-RW's are good for one-time music compilations. I don't use them for data transfer anymore- 2 GiB USB sticks are much more convenient.

Ricoh (RICOHJPNW21). It's the most readily available media here and the only 8x DVD+RW's they had at the shop where I bought my drive. It's worked well for me.
