While many of you know that I'm fairly into optical media and technology, and some of you probably even know I'm into Japanese animation, and regularily attend anime conventions both in Canada and the USA.... probably most of you do NOT know that I am more recently adding a love of photography to that list (at least on an amateur level). So I thought I'd share some of my work:

Deathnote Cosplay Gathering Photoshoot:

Naruto Cosplay Gathering Photoshoot:

I've also taken a liking to videoing and posting on youtube, lot's of hilarious anime related videos from these gatherings:

I'll be away for the next several days at my annual local anime convention, but don't worry, there will be PLENTY of more pictures on the way soon, and more videos also. It will be as if you had attended the convention yourself

Enjoy! :D

Nice pics Haven't been to Vancouver for about 8 years... What are you using to shoot with? Me... I am preparing myself for dSLR with a FujiFilm S9100 bridge camera... I love it (though it lacks IS... you just need a steady hand)... takes some fabulous pics. Perhaps another year with it and I will go dSLR...

Oh... would love to see some picks of the mountains again if you get out and about :D

I'm using a Fuji (Finepix) F10 camera at the moment, but like you I plan to upgrade to DLSR in the next year or so. It takes some pretty good pics and videos for what I'm doing, so I really don't have any complaints. Although I'm not a super big fan of the XD memory card format.

I'll see what I can do about the mountains, although I've never tried to do scenic photography... but if the mountains strike me as being in a good pose, I'll snap a few

I also have an F20... Picked it up a couple of months back to stick in my pocket... It is a great pocket camera... A little improved over the F10, which is a fine camera too. FujiFilm should be announcing the follow-up to the FinePix S9100 soon... I expect it to include IS (the S8000 and F50 were announced and have it)... that might be worth the upgrade (since my dad really wants my S9100)... have to wait and see.

Oh, and FujiFilms newer announcements add support for SDHC (though they also support xD).

Yeah, cameras are one of the only things I think Fuji does a good job on, product line wise :)

Well... They used to make some decent recordable media. It was pretty hard to come by in the US though.

So I've finally gotten my pics up from Anime Evolution 2007:

For anyone interested, this is my girlfriend (Her online name is Noir), whom I met at an anime gathering. We've been dating only a few weeks so far. Monday August 13th was our first date. This pic was taken on our second date, a formal Masquerade Ball held before the anime convention:

Ian, this one is for you.... Clerks 2 cosplay:

If anyone remembers last year, I had a block of wood dressed up as a ninja, which I called Wood-Chuck.... well over the course of a year, I had a plushie version of him made, along with plushie weaponry to go with him (more for my carrying convenience then anything else). I brought him back to the con again this year, and he was as popular as ever:

I just checked out the photos. Lots of interesting characters, that's for sure.

Congrats on the new girlfriend. She looks very anime-esque. :D

By the way, do you all actually watch any anime at these events or is it all masquerading and other activities?

She's not *THAT* into anime actually... just certain ones. She's more interested in doing makeup for photoshoots and doing her own modeling. But she loves the anime community all the same :)

Actually, our relationship is not at all unlike this movie:
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0456121/

And as it happens, she bought that movie on the Friday before our first official date on Monday August 13th. And I was reading the manga (graphic novel) for the movie on the bus heading out from work on the way to our first date. :P

At the annual anime convention itself there are several screening rooms that show anime 24/7 for the full 3 days. But during regular weekly gatherings it's mostly outdoor activities and lazer tag. Most of us watch anime on our own time

Nice pics there Dolph, girlfriend looks like a keeper :) I just picked up a Canon digital rebel XT for 400 on a price match deal, awesome camera, the XTI is sposed to be even better but this will do me fine for the price I paid.
All ready picked up a 100-300 zoom lens and planning on more as good deals on new or used pop up.
They are starting to blow out the older models as the XTI and D40? are out or just about out so might be a good time for you to jump next time a blowout sale happens.
Just be prepared, you'll want better lenses and the things can cost way more then the camera did as I'm finding out...
Post more as they come up and watch the deal sites, thats where I found out about the XT deal, from slick deals.

Making the move to DSLR... Ordered an Olympus EVOLT E-510 kit for $650.00... Got some great comments on this kit at dpreview.com in the forums and dpreview gave it a very favorable review. Highly recommended.

That said Fuji announced some new cams, the most interesting to me is the S100FS. It adds a useful gimmick called face detection... For xmas I got a F50fd and was not real interested at first because I like to bounce flash to avoid red-eye, but through that little cam in my pocket and went to my youngest daughters school function and was impressed with the face detection... Snapped a photo and immediately saw red-eye on the EVF and before I could say dammit, the face detection kicked in, zoomed in on her eyes and took the red-eye out leaving her eye color in place... sweet little cam... Still, I think I will like the Oly more based on all I have been reading at dpreview.com and cameralabs.com....

Wow....what an old thread to resurrect.... I'm not dating her anymore even :o (only last a few months, we weren't super compatible, but are still friends).

Anyways, face detection is pretty cool. I've seen it on other cameras in the past, but it was not very advanced yet and didn't always catch the faces properly. It was sometimes funny what it considered a face :P
