am I getting too old or cranky to be a road warrior?

Guys, I fly over 150 flights a year, mostly on UA.

Today I was flying a non-United airline, and it got delayed really badly due to mechanical problem.

I finally got reaccomdated on a much later flight. Anyways, I was fuming because I was reaccomodated on a bad seat, and I got the "SSSS" mark for security screening - the full 9 yards body search and luggage search.

This was a bad time for me, as I was carrying my Lite-On 52X CDRW for a friend, and some other delicate technical goodies, that I'd rather not have some security agent rifle over rather indelicately.

Normally I'm the most patient flier, but this time I was just fuming. I decided not to fly today, and will fly United tomorrow to avoid all that hassle.

To most people this may seem crazy, but I think I'm just burnt out on the weekly flights and the security crap...

What do you guys think?

Ugh, those full security searches are such BS. A friend and I both got searched because we were flying only one way (on that airline) and back on another airline. We got the full check at every point, not only the check for explosives at the checkin, but the full body search at the gate to the plane. Oh well... they have to do it...

Hey, with that much flying, it is understandable if you get to feeling worn out by it all. That is an incredibly demanding pace. And while living the life of a road-warrior can be very interesting, I don't have to tell you that it can also be very draining. Don't feel bad if you eventually tire of it. I think most people do. And that doesn't mean you are getting old, it just means you are getting a better undertanding of what you want to do and are willing to put up with, and what you are not. Hang in there! :)

P.S. I guess that explains your moniker. I always wondered if UAL stood for United Airlines.

It's a little overdone. But after 9/11 I can't blame them for being paranoid. The USA will get hit again, if an airline employee can remove the threat by being overly cautious, then here's to them.

I agree too.

The problem is that after being searched and padded down over 50 times in the last year and half, without having done anything wrong other than being picked at the wrong time, I'm really sick of it.

Imagine if you went to work every day, and there was a 30% chance that your name would be called, to do drug screening, get a pat down, and your belongings searched, just in the name of security, even though you already went through a metal detector, and your belongings went through an X-Ray machine already. How thrilled would you be?

And on top of that, I start to hear crap like this:

JFK SCREENER STOLE $$: COPS

By JENNIFER FERMINO

A security screener at JFK Airport was arrested and suspended last night for stealing money from a passenger, a witness told The Post

Transportation Security Administration spokesperson Andrea Seifer confirmed the arrest and suspension, but would not reveal the charges.

The witness said the screener stole thousands of dollars from a passenger after noticing $10,000 cash in his luggage.

The administration was established in the wake of the Sept. 11, 2001 terror attacks to ensure airline safety.

I just don't think secondary gate searches add anything to security. Especially if the security check point, with all the taking off of the shoes, X-Raying of your belongings, and chemical testing of your electronics, should be thorough enough that nothing threatening should get through anyway!
