When i try to make ISO'Z under some special programs like Alcohol 120%, my LG cd-rom won't read a cd with more than 20x. I have to specify that DMA is enabled and my system is running under Windows Xp Service Pack 1.
It's interesting that my Plextor drive works really cool in comparisson with the LG drive...
Anyone, please give me a hint>>>!

MY CONFIGURATION:
PM: HDD WESTERN DIGITAL 20 GB 7200 RPM;
PS: NONE;
SM: PLEXTOR 40/12/40A CD-RW;
SS: LG CD-ROM 8521B 52X;

What sort of speeds can you achieve with CD Speed's transfer rate test when reading non-protected pressed and CD-R media?

I can achieve big speeds under some certain programs, for example, in Nero CD Speed (1.02) i can achieve at least 32 x for any type of cd. Lookes like some applications "force" my CD-ROM to the maximum. Under Alcohol, a cd can be saved with 8 to 20 x. Not more than this. Strange thing. I'm looking for a way to "force" my cd-rom under all programs... Any hint?

What kind of discs are you making ISOs of? For example, Mode 1 CD-ROM, Mode 2 CD-ROM, VideoCD, AudioCD, etc? Some drives will read discs such as VideoCDs and AudioCDs slower than they will read regular Mode 1 CDs.

I'm trying to make iso'z of Mode 1 and Mode 2 CD-ROM frequently. On some CD'S it works really cool (up to 52x). But on other cd's it sucks. Hint>?

Sorry it took me so long to respond to this thread.

Mode 2 will possibly go slower due to the fact that many drives read Mode 2 discs slower. There's nothing you can do about it. If the Mode 1 discs are slow, are they dirty, scratched, or copy-protected?
