Are you sure it isn't the DHM-G48:

Anyway, here are web pages for Artec/Ultima North America, Europe, and the home office in Taiwan:

Typo. it is the DHM-G48
I noticed that the Toshiba 6X that I used RIP'ed at 4X
and this 16X drive RIPs at 4X also?

Is 4X the maxium for RIPing DVD's?

No, although some drives artificially limit the ripping speed for DVD's (presumably to placate the MPIAA and other such organizations). I don't know for a fact, but I wouldn't expect your drive to be one such drive.

What kind of DVD are you trying to rip? DVD-ROM drives typically rip dual-layer DVD's much slower than single-layer DVD's. Also, describe your system and the software you are using.

Using DVD Decrypter and SmartRipper--both about the same speed
Tried Saving Private Ryan and Bullitt

Both about the same speed

I have my DVD reader on he same IDE as a pio4 Cd Burner
Maybe the PIO4 Cd burner is slowing down the IDE port

I suspect those are dual-layer DVD's and that is at least partially responsible for your ripping speeds. What do you see when you test the transfer rate for those DVD's using CD Speed?

If your system is relatively modern it probably supports independent device timing and the PIO mode burner isn't slowing things down. Still, it would be worthwhile testing with the DVD-ROM on its own channel to ensure that isn't a problem.

Ran the DVD speed test and it ran 6x to 16x speed

Drive only cost $20
