Can You offer me some models of DVD-ROMs, that are very quiet.
I have some other requirements. I want DVD-ROM to have 48x read CD speed, and can read every CD-R,RW and ROM media.
But most important is quietness of the DVD-ROM

Thank You beforehand !!!

Look for LG's DRD-8160B or GDR-8161B.

LG's are pretty quiet. As for being able to read "everything", most modern optical drives can do that. I'm being overly simplistic.

Is the LG regionfree?
I have heard that LG have some probelms with ripping CD-Audio
The problem is with slow speed ripping.
Is that correct?

What can You say about Lite-On 16x48x?

10X

My LTD 163D rips audio very, very fast.

However, that ABS is pretty annoying to listen to, and DVD playback isn't as quiet as the LG.

Well I just bought the GDR-8161B

it is a very well built drive and is very quiet

I have encountered no problems in reading discs yet

oh it can read all formats except +R yet it can read +RW

Its probably do to the differences in read frequencies of +R discs compared to the +rw side

Is the GDR-8161B locked at 12x while Audio read and rip?

no it can read up to 40x for CDA format rips

you are thinking of the early model the GDR-8160 not 61

the GDR-8161B is slightly different and can read up to 40x CDA

If you're looking for a quiet combo drive, look at the Samsung SM-352B.

It's quiet and has good DVD error correction -- played my scratched DVD movie that my other Lite-On just refused to play. Pretty quiet.

Ian, will you be reviewing this drive ?

will DVD ROM lens be overused

I write files on the CDRW daily, will that wear out my lens more easily and hence DVD ROM playback quality will be affected

I was thinking of getting a separate CDRW drive
