LG CRD-8522B 52X IDE CD-ROM Drive Problems
Posted: Sun Sep 07, 2003 7:29 pmI have owned this LG 52X drive for about a year and a half, but have always thought its performance was garbage. I decided to finally test it out using Nero CD-DVD Speed, bundled with Nero 6.0
Here are my results: I used my Deus Ex: GOTYE edition Retail CD to benchmark. I also tried an Audio CD, a CD-R disc, and a CD-RW disc, the results were the roughly the same.
System:
Intel P4-2.4C with HT enabled
Abit IS7, 865PE chipset, latest INF installed
Dual channel DDR400, 1 gig ram
Windows XP Pro, SP1
Primary Master: WD 80 GB ATA100 Hard Disk, DMA ON
Primary Slave: WD 4 GB ATA33 Hard Disk, DMA ON
Secondary Master: LG 52X, DMA ON, Multiword DMA 2
Secondary Slave: LG 32x/10x/40x CDRW, DMA ON, Multiword DMA 2
Here are Nero's test results for the 52X, I also benchmarked my burner and the second set of numbers are for that drive, which worked beautifully:
SPEED TESTS
Average 19.48X, 31.26x
Start 23.43X, 18.61x
End 37.85X, 29.76x
Type CAV, CAV
However the LG 52x drive spun all the way down to about 4x and stayed under 10x throughout the 20-40 minute range of the CD.

Is my drive broken or needs servicing?
