DMA Problem

Hello
One of my friends has put tick toward DMA in Windows CDROM properties(Despite Windows Alert).After Restarting Computer,The CDROM went in problems.When he puts CD in CDROM,The CDROM begin to work slowly,and after a moment The Blue Screen of Death appeares.and says Insert the CDROM XXX.What is the problem?What should he do?

might try unticking DMA as it isnt always supported.

Can it make problem for my CDROM?(Ticking DMA while it isn't supported)

yeah it can cause lockups and erratic behavior or just a complete failure to boot. If its a PIO mode cdrom only then checking DMA wont increase performance but only cause problems.

wicked1 is right.If the computer is more than 3 years old then it probably wont support DMA.And enabling DMA wony cause any hardware problems,only software ones.

Thanks for your help!
But now ,what should he do?How can he correct the problem?His CDROM doesn't read anything!
He has changed his OS(Windows ME) and but he didnt succeed.
And he uses ASUS 52X.

You can try unchecking the tick mark in front of DMA.I think that it wont be enabled by default if he has changed the OS.You may check though.If it doesnt work then you will have to check the CD-ROM on some other computer.
