I had a dirty disc dvdshrink was barfing on. Using isopropyl
it's gone from analyzing/puking at 76% all the way to 99%.
Is 99% the innermost part of the disc or outermost? I think I
saw a post about washing in warm soapy water - is isopropyl
OK? What's best for cleaning?

99% is towards the outer edge of the disc. Both CDs and DVDs start at the hub.

Either isoproply alchohol or some soapy water (e.g. hand dishwashing soap) should be fine. I'd start with the soapy water. Just be sure to wipe gently and in a radial direction (from inner hub straight out towards edge of disc).

Ok, thanks.

The outside edge has a couple serious scuffs and cleaning
a few times hasn't helped it. So since it's readable up to
99%, I'm hoping it's some foreign language track or bonus
material or something that I don't even want since it's not
part of the movie. But since dvdshrink can't finish analyzing
it I never get to the part where you can reauthor. If I use
dvdcrypter and rip to HD do you know how I can 'fix' what it
successfully rips so that I can get dvdshrink to work doing
a "open files"? That way I can burn the 99% that's
readable to +RW and see if I got the whole movie.

When I tried to rip another DVD I had the same trouble
with, dvdcrypter ripped to where it got hung up at one spot
and looked like it was going to take hours to finish reading
because of all the retries/read errors. So I aborted it and
just for fun I had dvdshrink "open files" but it complained
that the file I had dvdcrypter abort didn't exist. So
somewhere (I guess) I have to edit something so dvdshrink
doesn't try looking for it. How do I do that?
